Something else Evans needs to consider 10:22 - Nov 25 with 1672 viewsSomethingBlue

We will not see a full Portman Road for a long time but it's reasonable to think we'll be back to full capacities in the next year or so. Crowds will inevitably be quite low at first, here and at most places, because some people will feel cautious and — this is the thing — others will need encouragement to get back into the habit. If Town are still drifting or worse there is a very high chance of returning to the 8k/9k crowds we sometimes saw in the 90s once it's all shaken down, with no obvious escape route from that this time.

In particular it's going to be a battle to attract an already hard-to-please younger generation, now used to watching PL football at any hour of the weekend. Even more so, possibly, if and when Norwich get back to the top flight six months from now and continue establishing themselves as the regional power. If Town can't find a way of emerging from this period with a semblance of freshness or momentum then I *massively* fear for us — and this is before we get into salary caps and the like. The clubs that come out of Covid-19 in good shape — on the pitch, off it and in the stands — will be the ones equipped to face the next five years and leave everyone else behind.

Not to mention the various financial pressures many supporters up and down the country will be facing after this year. Our ticket prices are already very high for this level, and if that's the sort of 'entertainment' we'll be serving up week in, week out, then many will let their head rule their heart and simply stop coming.

Not sure anyone else in the area would be interested in buying a 30k seater stadium. We don't own the land.

council can build on it

no point having 30k stadium when you average 8000 attendances

Presume you mean Playford Road, because there is nothing at Portman Road we can practically sell (we own the buildings, but not the land upon which they sit).

Good Lord! Whatever is it?

I don't think we could afford to build even a smaller stadium without having something substantial to sell.

so we could see the buildings to the council to be knockdown, then build a new stadium elsewhere yeah?

The council can build on it, true. But we can't sell it as we don't own it. We could give up the lease but where will we then find the cash to build our new stadium?

This plan makes literally no sense for any of the parties involved.

Why would the council want to buy a stadium that they have no use for?

Ignoring the practical reasons this is ridiculous that others have pointed out, there’s not a hope in hell a new stadium would be built in Foxhall. Any new ground would 100% be just off the A14, most likely around the Copdock Interchange

Probably an identikit concrete bowl, too. Ugh.

But we wouldn't get any money from the council if they sell it the council get it all. We wouldn't have the money to build another stadium we would have to ground share with either Colchester or Norwich

I don't think the council can build unless it's for sports purposes. It was a caveat left by the Cobbold family. I stand to be corrected on that though.
