Time for a change to 4-4-2 ? 13:47 - Nov 25 with 852 viewsMetal_Hacker

Seemingly not working as a 4-3-3 or at least the way the players are asked to play it. The two wide front men are too far away from the central guy all the time so...time to change it up utilising what we have available

Holy
Chambers - Woolfy - McGuinness - Ward

Edwards - Downes - Dozzell - Bennetts or Lankester

Norwoord - Jackson

Both wide midfielders taking the time to swap flanks on occasion to keep the opposition on their toes and also to utilise Edwards in a way that makes him effective (coming in from the left)

I would've said "in the ideal world" so I stand corrected by your infinite wisdom and my oversight BUT if all available

Dozzell back imminently , do we know the extent of Edwards' injury ?

The issue I'd forgotten about was my inclusion of Flynn.....anyone else in there I couldn't trust .

Huws ? Nope
McGavin ?Nope in experienced

Ya know what...Ill get my coat !!

There has to be a solution ffs

Filling the midfield with appropriate players would be an issue for Saturday but I would like to see this formation used again longterm.

Perhaps starting 4-4-1-1 with Hawkins starting with Norwood and then being replaced by Jackson once he has softened them up....

You've forgotten we are hopeless when we play 2 up front, despite persisting with it all last season

Doesn’t have to be either or. A good manager will react and adapt as needed.

What amazes me is how we seem to be the only team I know that cannot and will not change formation mid game to mix it up

Brain dead management and pi55 poor tactically

Especially when we changed formation for basically every single game last season, and sometimes 2-3 times mid game

PL said we're hopeless at 4-4-2, so go with the Leeds formation from last/this season of 3-3-3-1

Ironically we had an unbeaten run stretching 10 games with it and we still weren’t great. At least the Norwood - Jackson partnership was a positive.

Don't think it matters too much what formation we play when the coaching and tactical detail is so clearly absent.

And when we have 3 strikers on the bench. But no Dobra who would suit 4-3-3? It's almost like he makes things up on the spot and doesn't know what he's doing.

I do get the feeling PL is perhaps trying with some sort of message to ME. If it is true that ME has suggested this 433 approach at the start of the season with expansive flowing ,high pressing football ,I get the feeling PL is now digging his heels in and can now turn around when hopefully the inevitable happens and blame his boss

Oh I dunno....I'm just lost for ideas, words and totally frustrated beyond belief

To think this is the 40th anniversary of our biggest ever achievement to date that will never ever be replicated again by a club of our size / stature

With the right midfield and Norwood fit and on form, like he looked last night, I think we'll be okay. Probably not brilliant, there's nothing to suggest this squad can be brilliant, but okay.

Trouble is, take out Downes, Dozzell, Bishop, even Nolan, and it's a mess.

I think you are ultimately right. Although 4-4-2 is the one of the easiest systems to organise defensively, Lambert would still balls it up.

However, we can't really on a coaching, because we don't have a coach.

So we have to rely on the indivduals, and when you have Jackson/Norwood available, ultimately I feel they need to be on the same pitch together, because they current are our biggest threats you feel.

We'd probably still pass it around endlessly at the back and then lump it. And he'd still pick Judge.
To play wide.

There's no way he's doing that.
1. He's not a good enough tactician or coach tome it work
2. There's no place for Judge in that formation.

Please note; you are talking about a manager who once said that systems meant nothing.

I need say no more.
