He was some footballer, no debate about that. The recent documentary about his life was a real eye opener, how he got dragged into drugs when in Napoli and how the mafia refused to let him leave the club when he could have. Sadly it went down hill and he never seemed to recover from that period in terms of his addictions.

Somewhere there's a piece from the Guardian about that. It was a bit false as he had just taken a quick free kick and those guys had all been stood in the wall seconds earlier.
But still one awesome photo. Think he scored a wonder goal in that game too, might try and youtube it.
Damn, sitting here blubbing. I posted something on here a few weeks back. I don’t think I could add anymore to what I said then:
A complex, exploited, tortured soul, with a very dark side. I've been slightly obsessed with Diego Armando Maradona for many years. It's extremely easy to feel repulsed by him: his life has been blighted by depression, drugs, wrong decisions, bad company, often not helped by many of his own traits, but no matter what, I can't ever, ever get away from the beautiful footballer he could be. And that's what it always seems to distill down to when I think about him, just beauty on the field, the simple game that football is, but he took it somewhere else. Something balletic in an era when heathens still stalked first class football. Balance, strength, skill and grace among the ordinary who were allowed to step on to the same patch of grass as him. A magical footballer, a flawed human being.

Brilliant footballer, no question.
What platform was this documentary? Heard about it before and I'm keen to watch it.
