Players from incredibly poor backgrounds have a win at all cost mentality, despite the millions we throw at Football, Rugby etc we always fall short and for me it's nothing to do with talent as we have talented people across the board, it's more down to the mentality we have and we grow up with, I don't know, I could be talking nonsense but that's the way I see things.

No surprise when we won the Rugby WC in 2003 Woodward's first job was getting the mentality right, across the board, players who had been in the side in the years building up were tossed aside when they did a Marine training weekend, a simple case of "are they team players?" No, out you go.

Unfortunately, our current national football team has all the ingredients to win a WC or Euro's, but with Southgate at the helm I do wonder if we have that bite needed to go the extra mile.

Maradona was born and lived in a shack with no running water. Used to collect and sell the metal bits out of a cigarette pack. Fair to say he came from the ghetto for sure.

I have considerable sympathy for Shilton here. Maradona cheated, purely and simply and if he hadn't that game could've gone the other way very easily. Shilton could've been a World Cup winner and he can justifiably perceive that he was deprived that rare achievement by a blatant act of cheating. Also, in regards to him being outjumped, he was going for a ball that he would've won if if wasn't for Maradona's cheating.

That said, he was one of the greatest (arguably THE greatest) footballer ever and to not recognise that - especially at this point - does seem churlish, particularly as it is one of those great rags-to-riches stories. That he managed to achieve what he did set against his upbringing and other demons makes it even more worthy of admiration.
