Interesting Match 17:08 - Dec 5 with 297 viewsgordon

But wasn't a great a performance - we basically dominated the game for a couple of minutes, but it was two really good finishes.

Again we looked completely toothless playing 4-3-3. McGavin, Lankester, Nolan and Judge just don't offer much forward drive or dynamism. The only attacking threat was from Dobra until the subs. The only reason to play 4-3-3 with our personnel is to get Edwards into really advanced attacking positions - without him, it's pointless playing midfielders like Judge or Lankester in those wide positions just to be sticking with a system, because they play in a completely different way to Edwards anyway, andthey just don't offer much of a threat, and the striker is too isolated.

But with Bennetts and Dobra wide (OK they're both a bit inconsistent) they can carry the ball forward, and the lack of dynamism from the centre of the pitch is less of a problem, and Nolan and Judge can just recycle the ball and do the simple things (which they are both capable of). Of course we'd be much stronger with Downes and Dozzell as the central two.

Also worth saying that this win is not a vindication of Lambert or Evans. It was 5 hours or so of football without a goal playing their 4-3-3 system.
