Colchester fans being called out by their own players 21:06 - Dec 5 with 9738 viewsTRUE_BLUE123

For booing taking the knee. Callum Harriott tweeting about it. Some fairly disgraceful reactions to it today from some very simple and backwards creatures. I’m sure this won’t happen at Portman road, right ?

It depends who the 2000 are that get to go. I think the bulk of town fans wouldn't, but there is a section who do see BLM as "identity politics" (Not my view, but an actual quote from someone in the chatroom earlier today)

Micah Richards and Dion Dublin are not pulling any punches on it.

Those booing are racists plain and simple.

Even if you do not agree with what you view the movement to represent to boo it is to show open defiance to the core principle that Black Lives Matter. To oppose that makes you openly racist.

I think it is time players ramp this up and walk off if fans are booing and agree to play after a respectful reception to them repeating it has been observed. If clubs fail to deal with it, the FA should fine clubs too.

Needs to be treated in exactly the same way as racist chanting. In terms of message it's no different to if those involved chanted "f*ck the blacks" instead of booing.

Sadly some football fans are not the sharpest tools in the box and are easily lead by agitators with an agenda. These sorts seem to be claiming BLM is about extreme socialist anarchists intent on rioting, looting and overthrowing governments. Deluded nonsense, but like the anti-vaxxers and 5G fruitcases, hard to change their views.

Clubs need to identify and ban for life those found guilty, all clubs could do without these type of fans.

Booing taking the knee is pretty low and does certainly indicate that those doing it are racist as to get so angry about it suggests deep rooted attitudes. However, Dublin's comment that if you boo taking the knee you must be racist is unhelpful and will only encourage them. BLM - rather than specifically the fight against racism - make some understandably uncomfortable with some of the movements 'demands', such as defunding the police, which I entirely disagree with.

Also, I do worry that the act is becoming just a fashionable thing, something that is just as part of the match as kick-off itself and so loses its impact.

To reiterate though, the booing of an act that is primarily carried out by people as a statement against racism (rather than a political message) is low.

I know this may sound stupid, and come the morning I may regret saying this, but I’m almost happy it is happening as it is keeping Black Lives Matter front and centre; it’s showing why the message is so important. At least the booing shows we have a long way to go to right the mess the world is in, rather than creating a delusional impression that all is fine. My biggest concern is that kneeling will turn into something akin to wearing the poppy - it is something which is done as it is deemed as good, but will the intention and message eventually wash over people without much consideration being taken?

What do you understand defunding the police to mean? The biggest proponents of defunding the police in the UK have of course been the Conservative party, and not BLM.

Not overly surprised to hear Colchester fans have done this. Back in the year they got relegated to the Conference myself and my group of mates decided to support them at Peterborough away, the thinking being as we aĺl supported a mixture of different teams, it would be nice as a group to go and have a day out supporting the same team. It made sense to the 14/15 year old we were then.

The abuse aimed at the black lads playing for Posh from Colchester fans was beyond anything I've heard to this day. We left at half time which was in itself hard work as the stewards were reluctant to let a group of spotty teenagers out, eventually we convinced them we had no interest in charging the home end.

I'd love to be able to say the shocking incidents of racism we witnessed led to us all becoming activists but we decided to mark our outrage by getting the two oldest looking lads to get a load of beer from a nearby offie and getting pissed in the park behind Peterborough's outdoor pool. 1989 I think.

Is it such a bad thing if publicly displaying anti-racist sentiments becomes a fashion statement? Normalises it, embeds it in culture and becomes a constant, visible reminder of the issue. Makes being racist "uncool".

The police defunding thing is a specifically US matter. There isn't any system of centralised regulation and oversight as we have in this country. Instead you have individual forces, down to a very local level, using the money not for good policing - or even necessarily paying their officers well - but rather for arming themselves to the teeth (even to the level of military-standard armoured vehicles).

Good Lord! Whatever is it?

The only reason that BLM and the whole protest following the death of George Floyd got any media attention was because 95% of the US media desperately wanted Trump out of office. It might sound cynical, but BLM won't get any particular attention now and the US police can go back to shooting black men without it being reported. Take the knee must stop soon, otherwise it will be an admission that things are no better without Trump.

Depends why they’re booing. If they’re booing because they think racism is ok they’re idiots. If they’re booing because the taking a knee is seen as political ( the whole
BLM thing ) then fair enough.

Personally I think professional football should take some responsibility and come up with their own way of making a stance instead of going along with something that started in the USA.

The taking a knee seems to have become a token gesture in some cases and it’s not good enough.
