I have heard the same thing about the name of Castle Hill, but I think it is more likely that the farm and the hill it stands on was named from memory of the old villa. The first real evidence of roman habitation there was actually unearthed at the farm in 1854.
That having been said, it's a good location for a castle, on the main road leading in from the north and west, plus covering the river crossing at Bramford. There were a lot of castles - usually small, earth and wood construction - built in England, used only temporarily and then abandoned or destroyed. Particularly during the Anarchy (Stephen v Matilda 1135-53).
It is, perhaps, more likely that remnants of earthworks or folk memory from something like that might lead to the naming of the location, rather than a much older structure which would have been invisible at ground level by the Medieval period and was not rediscovered until the farm was built in 1854.
I'd forgotten, but Time Team dug in the area in 2003.
California grill after a night on the lash at the Heathlands - There was no finer saturday
Ahhh the Heathlands. Watched most of Euro 96 in there when I was a student living in Pearson Rd.....fond memories of being showered with beer when Gazza scored 'that' goal against Scotland!

How long since there was a Northgate and even a sidegate onto Ipswich?
and when there was would they have been on the edge of the town like they are now?
The olde worlde meaning of 'gate' was road or street, rather than a gate as we know it, as such there will probably never have been gates of those names, just the streets which bear the names today.
Incidentally Northgate used to be called Old Bar Gate, and Westgate was Barre Gate.

Whilst that is true about the use of 'gate' in general your link does rather counter that point for Northgate and Westgate in Ipswich. The position of Tower Ramparts obviously ties in with both.
And for those who didn't know Northgate High School is so named because it evolved from a grammar school located in Northgate Street.
There are also the California cliffs in Kessingland, which were named that after one of the locals went gold prospecting out west and came back with a relative fortune. Local rumours were that there was a gold nugget the size of a fist he buried somewhere along the coast...
I'll see if I can find the chap's name later on.
Had many happy family hols there when the kids were young.
