People were applauding Lambert out from the tunnel at kick-off... on 17:27 - Dec 12 by N2_Blue | No sorry. I'm a tolerant guy and sympathetic to all sorts of things in life especially in current circumstances. But anyone that claps Paul Lambert based on his managerial record with us (let alone the disgusting off field demeanour in recent weeks) is weird. Any one that claps that is indicating they are ok with the manger and happy to see us continue a downward spiral. As a football supporter, that is wierd. |
In your opinion | | | |

People were applauding Lambert out from the tunnel at kick-off... on 17:22 - Dec 12 by 44_not_out | Yet, on another day they’ll be a thread that goes on for 5 pages about how society needs to be more tolerant Don’t get me wrong the current state of affairs is dire (in my opinion) but I think you should be free to support your club how you want to. This is especially poignant on a weekend when tolerance is at the centre of things with the rainbow laces. Calling people weird because they don’t act or think like you do is harsh to say the least |
I'm not sure those things are equatable.

No you don’t! I was just making an observation, but if you think calling people weird is appropriate, carry on Mr Tolerant

Weird's not bad is it? Blimey, it's not like he's called them a bunch of ****s. He's right, it is strange to be cheering on your own demise.

People were applauding Lambert out from the tunnel at kick-off... on 16:17 - Dec 12 by dominiciawful | I would struggle to argue with you on that. His conduct has been an absolute disgrace and I'm embarrassed that he is our manager and he has been backed by Evans. Not to mention that he is a dreadful football manager. |
Is his behaviour worse than McCarthy?

I'm not just calling people weird full stop. I'm calling them weird for clapping Paul Lambert...and I stand by that. The guy is not particularly charismatic, likeable etc and considering how he is treating people (including some good journalists trying to make a living) why would anyone clap him? I'm genuinely curious.

Yes. And he’s a significantly worse manager too.

My dear N2, I agree with your sentiments re. PL and if you refer to my reply I describe the current situation as ‘dire’. I also do not have anything positive to say about PL But, I stand by my comments about being tolerant with others who might act differently to you. We are all fans of ITFC. My dear old 75 year old Dad who still travels home and away will never have a bad word said about the club.... I can assure you he’s not weird!

People were applauding Lambert out from the tunnel at kick-off... on 16:21 - Dec 12 by gainsboroughblue | Unreal. I remember the 'Duncan Out' protests. They involved pitch invasions, burning of flags and trouble in the town centre after the game. I'm not advocating any of that now but this was for a man who for however hopeless he may have been, was actually a decent guy. Lambert treats us all with utter contempt, delivers us with our worst league position in decades and gets the sort of welcome a batsman making a pretty 50 odd would get on returning to the pavilion. This is Ipswich. Dozzy fcking wet wipe middle aged drips with absolutely no fcking bottle or fight. They’ll meet boos with ‘support the team’ only to sit silent all game. We are a tragic club with an appalling fan base

Never having a bad word said about the club is not weird, that's not what I am saying. So why would i describe you dad as weird for that stance? I'm saying clapping Lambert is weird, although as Jeera writes, 'strange' would perhaps be a slightly friendlier way of putting it.

Whilst I was disappointed with just how many people clapped (and they definitely were applauding Lambert), I think the fact people did so is evidence of one of the central tenets of our club and shouldn't be viewed entirely negatively. Respectfulness and 'doing the right thing' has (at least throughout my lifetime) been one of the core characteristics of ITFC; it's what makes us different to a multitude of other clubs. It may in some instances be frustrating, but it is why we as a club will always be better than the like of Keane, McCarthy and Lambert who are incapable of showing the same level of class. That doesn't mean that Town fans aren't perfectly capable of sticking up for themselves and the club. Anyone who thinks otherwise forgets the various protests against managers through the years. What was clear was that whilst many people seemed willing to give Lambert a warm welcome, many soon turned once it was clear that we were second best. It may not have come across on iFollow, but there was plenty of abuse aimed at Lambert once the first goal had gone in and from there on in. He certainly won't have been unaware at just how unpopular the substitution of Jackson was and would have had to have been deaf or perhaps even dead not to understand the level of ire at the end. I suspect that although the majority of fans remain relatively patient and pro-Lambert, he is certainly on borrowed time if his attitude and the performances of the team don't improve rapidly. And having been there, I definitely don't buy the 'handpicked'/'fixed ballot' either - that's conspiracy theory b*llocks.
