Books for nerdy teenagers 11:53 - Dec 18 with 858 views | BrianTablet | Can anyone recommend some accessible/readable books for a nerdy A-level student. Something along the lines of Bill Bryson/Adam Rutherford (Short History of/Body/How to argue with a racist) but on: Sociology Psychology Politics Modern Culture Medicine Cheers in advance for any help. And yes, it's for Christmas shopping. I'm starting early this year.

| We have no village green, or a shop.
It's very, very quiet.
I can walk to the pub. |

Makes a good reference guide too. https://www.veryshortintroductions.com/

*turns round to look at bookcase again* What about Jared Diamond, perhaps need a bit more concentration than Harari but both Guns, Germs & Steel and Collapse are very good. The former on why it was European nations that were able to colonise the globe and the latter - which I need to re-read - on why civilisations fail. Also on a science theme: - The Rise and Fall of the Dinosaurs - Steve Brusatte - Moondust - Andrew Smith

Books for nerdy teenagers on 12:15 - Dec 18 with 773 views | Clapham_Junction | A couple I'd recommend: Bullsh!t Jobs (David Graeber) - discusses the concept of meaningless jobs and the impact they have on people who do them. Could be a good read for someone who will be making some decisions on what they want to do in life. One Step Ahead (Stevyn Colgan) - about finding root cause solutions to persistent crime and antisocial behaviour. I guess this would fall under sociology/psychology. Dictatorland by Paul Kenyon is also a pretty good read on the modern political history of Africa. [edit] Was thinking of mentioning Collapse by Jared Diamond, so agree with Steve_M's recommendation above. [Post edited 18 Dec 2020 12:16]

I read Guns, Germs, which I thought was good. Have you read Thank You for Being Late? That was excellent but a bit slow for a young person. :-)
