I'm astonished by some of the replies on the taxation side of this debate. If one of your relatives dies on a trolley in a corridor because there are no beds think back to Lewis Hamilton

There are plenty of people to think about before LH.

Hopefully every single thing you spend your money on, is an ethical product, and doesn’t fund the taxes of any people or companies that avoid tax.

Awful attitude of 'Why should I subsidise poor people?'

Not at all.

I do my fair share of charitable work. Donate a fair bit of my wage to charity without even being in a highly paid job but I feel it's something that must be done.

But you would move to a tax haven if you had more?

Yes I would. It would enable me to have more for my family and set up the next generations of my family.
. I'd also be in a position to be able to provide more charitable donations to those that need it.

If I had any form of stay within the UK or business as such then i would continue to contribute by way of taxes.

I pay into the system at present and make use of what that payment gives me as a citizen of the UK.

If I were to come into money. Have the opportunity to move abroad and keep more of that money then yes I would.

It's not selfish to not want to pay into a system I wouldn't be using. And knowing my current payments helps to pay for a lot of very lazy People that don't want to work ( I know a handful of friends in this exact category) to just sit down all day whilst I go to work and pay for them to do so.

So yes I would go abroad

You know several people who actively choose to stay on benefits despite being able to work? How long have they been doing this?

Don't know if for longer but most all of this year.

With Universal Credit you don't have to speak to or work with a work coach like you used to due to the pandemic so you just sit back. Relax and if have a partner bring in £1900 a month. No need to show any proof of interviews or that you're even looking for work.

If he had any love or respect for this country he could have stayed here and achieved exactly the same thing. In the same way that Andy Murray did. But he stuck 2 fingers up at us, moved to Monaco and saved himself about £200m. I'm absolutely staggered that the people of this country are prepared to vote for a sportsman who doesn't actually live here for tax reasons.

When I finally get my application approved to Canada, I'm going to stick two fingers up to this country. I can't wait to leave it behind. The best two year of my life were spent not living here. No reason for it to be so bad. We just have terrible democracy that systematically produces terrible leaders.

As for Lewis Hamilton. Yes, he should contribute more to tax. But your hatred should be reserved for the system that enables it, not the people who exploit it. You going in so hard on him makes it seem like there are alternative issues at play.

Not really.

UC is there for people who need it. Like me when I was off with covid back in March or for people who have lost their jobs and can't get another

Not for those who fancy chilling out.

Pretty abysmal aspirations for life if you’re up for chilling out with 12 grand a year.

You must be able to see why people are reluctant to rush back to work in the middle of a pandemic though?

Your attitude is a bit odd. Perhaps you could demand to know the employment status of everyone who attends the next Frimley game and only allow people in if they've bought the ticket with their salary or self employed income. You're being very judgemental.

We can all throw stones mate. It's not for me to post your circumstances on here but IIRC your employee income isn't your only income stream and it's easier to be pious when you're doing well and fairly comfortable.

Im no longer at Frimley J2. Resigned back in September.

I was only responding to another poster about why I don't understand the hate Hamilton gets. And subsequent questions put to me I haven't started a thread about the benefit system.

Apparently it has some bearing on how likely you are to care about his SPOTY win and tax situation... from people who aren't fascist of course.

The reality is there are very few people who decided to just chill out and get benefits rather than look for work. A tiny percentage of the population. So you must have a really weird friendship group.

Trust the process. Trust Phil.

I’ve not got an awful lot of time for Hamilton. I think he is a bit of a hypocrite, flying around the world to drive a formula 1 car and then lecturing the rest of us about climate change ...
In terms of ‘sports person of the year’ he was a clear and obvious choice though.

Is he as bad as people who lecture others about common decency then stick up for open bigotry, or worse, would you say?

Whilst we're talking hypocrisy, here.

I'm one of the people who was blamed for getting Paul Cook sacked. PM for the full post.
