'Ipswich fans have simply got to lower their expectations'- GEOFFREY KELLY EADT on 14:08 - Dec 21 by MrTown

"lower your expectations" - purely means fall back into the real world and understand where we are right now.

That is nothing to do with what I expect us to do this year.

I have suggested that some fans expectations should be lowered based on where we are right now, and I have further stated what I expect to happen this year (fall short of play-offs), I think my post makes that pretty clear.

There's an ambiguity in the phrase "lower your expectations". It means both "be content with less" and "I anticipate things will turn out badly". Both this post and your earlier post contain the exact same ambiguity and I'm still not entirely clear which you mean.

There is no ambiguity to what I posted.

I apologise that you couldn't understand it.

My original post was clear. If you didn't 'get it' from that, like I said, I apologise for that but I don't any attempt to explain futrther will make it any clearer.

"If by some miracle Ipswich did finish in the top six, just by their record alone having lost to so many teams above them I can’t see them suddenly going up.

Unfortunately the fans have simply got to lower their expectations."

Doesn't even make sense. We don't expect to go up. We don't believe the management or footballing structure is good enough. Therefore we expect Marcus Evans to sort out the footballing structure and we expect Paul Lambert to resign.

Leeds, Sheff Utd, Southampton... jeez, even Norwich... didn't accept League One status. That is why they are no longer in the division.

Just a tinpot Col U fan trolling.

Sheffield United spent 6 seasons in League 1. I'm not sure that would satisfy most Town supporters' expectations.

As I've said before, I don't think wanting us to be be actually competitive and play well in the third division is overly entitled and unrealistic.

Well, it is with Lambert in charge, but you know what I mean.

What are these "high standards"

'Vaguely competitive in the championship at least, half way entertaining football and an owner and manager who are competent and give a sh1t'?

But we are 6th, so that would suggest to a degree we are competitve enough to be in and around the play-offs, which is where we need to be.

I'm not sure the players available are going to produce silky football, we certainly played better when we had a fullish squad start of the season.

Just need to hang in there and get some quality back - Bish, Downes, KVY, Norwood, Edwards

Leeds and Sheffield United must have 'accepted' their status for a while, considering how long they spent there?

No, they didn't. They demanded more and subsequently cycled through a load of managers until one was recognisably competent enough to take them up. They didn't stick with managers who took them to 11th in the division and couldn't beat their competitors.

It isn't about how long you are there, but about not resting on poor mangers. They had a new manager every 1-2 years in the division, as they didn't stick on managers that clearly weren't good enough.

Not accepting does not mean instant success. It means change when things clearly aren't good enough.

EDIT: Also, just looked it up and it was four seasons, not six, that they were in league one.

It was Nigel Adkins that finished 11th for them and he was replaced by Chris Wilder, who got them promoted the next season. Just goes to show where a competent manager can take an 11th placed League one side of our size. They only lost six games that season. We've already lost that many.

Lowering expectations to a 6th place finish every season is partly why we are where we are now
