Looking at some old pictures, it really was a great home end

Brilliant. Your grandad sounds like a right hoolie!

Ha ha :-) This was when there was still a large working class in its “truest” sense. He’d spend the weekend drinking, watching football and gambling, and arguing with coppers just seemed a part of that. I do remember feeling a lit bit worried when he’d start telling them to fück off when they asked me to not sit on the the little wall that bordered the pitch.

Cant remember those windows at the back of the North. Best pic I can find is of the team pre match pic in 82/3 (Mills still there, but no Muhren), gives a good angle of North. Sorry, can’t post it no matter how much I follow instructions!

My initial response when looking at the photo, was also Villa Park 1981.

The Union flags, balloons, banner and f a cup cut out would give more credibility of Villa Park, not sure that I can recall such a large volume of blue and white combined with the above beyond an away f a cup game.

I love seeing my Dad's photo appearing all over the internet. There's a few he took on that day which had come out well and are great memories.

I think they are the old Perspex windows the North stand had , nor 100% though , on a slightly different but same subject , who can remember when part of the north stand floor / steps gave way , up the back to the left facing the pitch .

I scanned a few photos of that Brighton game from 1992 for him many years ago, but think they were on an old laptop from being scanned.

But I have these, and I will dig around to see if I have any more on disk.

I know there were a couple from on the pitch at full time too, I wonder if I still have the original physical photos?

Wasn’t there something like that at the Forest replay in 81’? Seem to remember the middle section was being kept empty, then they opened it under weight of numbers and something gave way as people moved from the end to the Center. Stairway in the middle of right hand section.

The pics were taken very close to my usual spot in Churchmans at that time, if I got in early enough! What a lovely day that was at the end of a really great season.

I found a few more the physical photos, but I don't have a scanner anymore.

Is it best to take a photo of the photo?

Would they have been coming from the old British Lion, where Willis building stands now? Looked a proper boozer from pics I’ve seen! Was The Falcon used then or was that the 70’s?

From my 'foggy' memory, British Lion was the 'meet up' pub for North Stand boys from when Town got back into the 1st division through to when it closed in the very early 70s before the Falcon became popular. Another one was the Queens Head which was opposite the Saturday Disco/night club Baths Hall where many a group of away fans headed for early in the evening. This has just made me recall an 'incident' probably 1970/71 when a large group of Middlesbough (?) fans clashed with locals outside and underneath the roundabout walkway probably as late as 8pm . Back in those days football travel coaches used to stay around for hours after the game. I remember a Christmas away game at Coventry 69/70 and the coach driver asking us fans what time in the evening we'd like to be back at the coach!!

The Queens Head seemed to become an away pub in 80’s/90’s. Hare n Hounds got a few in. Was The Sporting Farmer used? Again in my day it’s was pretty much an away pub until the last few years. There used to be all those little corner boozers along Commercial Road when I was a kid.
