That's hardly a surprise given that you seem to expect them to parrot your own narrow, rather unpleasant world view. I don't think you really understand what their purpose is. Maybe stick to Fox News, mate.

I suspect the main issue you have with the Beeb is that they largely report facts, which don't tend to support your disgusting views and are interested, albeit in rather a cack-handed fashion, in giving airtime to people who aren't middle-class white blokes. [Post edited 30 Dec 2020 7:13]

Thought police stuff on 21:41 - Dec 28 by monytowbray | Kuennsberg and Peston are embarrassments to Journalism. Both seem to think their job is copying what someone else says and then publishing it without question, then hiding behind the claim of impartiality. Not to mention both have been completely compromised by inside sources (likely ones that drive to Durham) in favour for such levels of access. Seems all very self-serving in the long run but that's the world we live in, neither will struggle to get a job elsewhere so could they please f*ck off and give up their positions to capable investigative journalists? |
You might be interested in this. I’ve followed these two for a while and they’re pretty good academic researchers who also run a Media Democracy project. Anyway this is their 2020 review podcast that I just got round to listening to while I set about some household chores: https://soundcloud.com/media-democracy-pod/from-a-to-zoom-the-2020-media-democra Here’s the blurb: “What a vintage year it's been! Tom and Dan look back on 2020 and talk about the highlights of the UK media's performance. We touch on mainstream satire (bad), the BBC (cosily familiar but also bad), the Murdoch press (very, very bad) and the current state of relations between the media and economic reality (absolutely awful). There's also some talk about what the hell the two hosts have been up to this year.” TLDR version: If people are concerned about the state of our country and our politicians then media reform is the absolute starting point.

You've just proved his point you wally All of the above are open to debate if you try and understand why someone you don't agree with has a different opinion. The BBC isn't supposed to be a representative of 'the right way of thinking'.

You've missed the context. The original point was how the BBC is supposed to be above opinion and is there to offer facts from an objective view. Some accuse it of being too left whilst ignoring how people of an often dubious persuasion are given equal footing to air their views even when those views are clearly rotten. That isn't balance. Edit: and just to be clear, having a racist or homophobic stance on anything is not open to interpretation nor is it a valid position from which to hold a debate. [Post edited 29 Dec 2020 22:47]

To be fair you'd know the facts about what that poster has said on here more than me so I accept your view there. I'm not on here much (partly due to posters like you badger and herbivore, no offence just 'fact'). My point was that your list, I think, was typed in a spirit of dismissiveness: 'Look at what these subjects this bloke has shared his view on before'. (Must have taken a while). And that kind of judgemental, polarising attitude is kind of what's got us where we are. By that I mean: on the brink of societal collapse, the like of which will make us sighingly nostalgic for a TWTD debate rather than stabbing someone trying to nick the last of our drinking water. Could you not imagine that given the exact same set of circumstances as Paz, you would have the exact same set of views as him/her? And maybe try to understand them rather than dismiss them? And find some common ground?

Apparently there is common ground to be found with racists otherwise you are judgemental and drive people away who hold those views. He's pretty much said the same thing in some 3 posts or so now so the picture is fairly clear. If you dismiss a racist, then you are nasty judgemental person. Feck me, when did it become a bad thing that common decency overrules as the dominant factor?

I have no idea who you are or why you've randomly decided to drop in that I'm the reason you don't post, but it's interesting that the thing that prompts you to post is having a pop at those who aren't big on stuff like racism and homophobia and not to challenge racism and homophobia itself. Very interesting in fact. You might want to reflect on why that is.

I guess I'd question what counts as 'common decency' that's all. Equality for all, regardless of race, gender, age, etc: agree Status quo of polarised debate that says 'I'm right and you're wrong' leading to the destruction of the earth: less so.

I feel grateful for my upbringing. I would not describe that as superiority. I do find racist views to be wrong and need challenging. There may be some contexts where I would shy away from challenging them, though. I am confused as to what point you are trying to make. You agree it is wrong to hold racist views. Does that mean you feel superior to someone who holds them? Confused. Signing off now but will check on on your response tomorrow.
