I’d love Dyer - he speaks intelligently about football, is Ipswich through and through, already seems to have had an impact with the U23’s - he’d be a massive gamble with zero management experience but look at how the ones with credentials have done.
A number on here have suggested the Cowleys, a far more sensible option to Dyer and having read the articles that have been put up on here, it feels like they’d be a very strong option for us.
Heart - Dyer, Head - Cowleys, M.E. - Pulis.

Tommy Wright....

TBH instead of appointing a manager we need a plan.... I know we had a 5 point one but that was back of a day packet

Dyer would see us into League Two, I am sorry, heart and nostalgia will not cut it.

The clubs a mess behind the scenes, we need someone with some experience to go through all this, we need someone to be tough with Evans and not just tell him what he wants to hear to stay in a job, we need someone who understands this league and the league above. Dyer has never managed a men's team and lets face it his latter career as a player was him hopping between clubs earning money for very little and that's not exactly the attitude we need here. We need a total rethink.

Evans will likely appoint Dyer though and when it goes tits up blame this forum again for the appointment. Dyer would be the nail in the coffin for ITFC, and that might make me unpopular, but he just wouldn't cut it.

He would be our Bryan Gunn appointment.

Neil Warnock, the man is available, addicted to promotions and has mentioned that he'd happily take the job. He'd easily stop this slide before it's too late and fire us to the Championship.

Oh wait, it isn't 2019. It's got to a point I don't really care, there's more reasonable candidates who would probably do better rather than worse.

Poll: An interesting day for our politicians, but which one is worse?

Disagree

Dyer understands where he went wrong as a player, he knows what an absolute wn ker he was, and I saw him in person to be able to say that, he was awful.

BUT he's got through that, grown up and is now a well respected coach.

With the right partner, he could be everything we need as we have no money, no wage budget and will be relying on our youth.

For me it's a Dyer/Butcher combo which suits our club.

I always struggle to name names because I just don’t know enough about them as people.

Because I think that’s the measure. Forget managers on an upward trajectory or those with trendy tactics or a bit of overseas exoticism, we need a manager who can get the most out of the squad and each individual. Since Burley we’ve had Royle and McCarthy who have been capable of that (with a special mention to Jim who kept the Royle squad mentality going over his first 18 months and before he could really start shaping his own squad).

They don’t have to be experienced like Royle and McCarthy were but I’d still like to see that quality of getting players to run through walls for the manager and their teammates.

Mowbray, but sadly we are far too small for him now and I believe he has no time for Evans.
After him, Kieron Dyer with whoever he wants as coach. Why? Because he understands what the club is, loves it and he is clearly interested in management/coaching.

Sadly nobody stands a chance with Evans at the helm. It’s an impossible poison chalice of a job.

What makes a good manager?
Managerial Experience?
Football experience..?

Surely Managerial Experience is just a record of the past.
Football experience, like dyer has, playing for england, playing club football under great managers... Are we saying you dont pick up things...
Hurst was hired on his record...
Drive, passion, excitment is what we need, and i would take a punt on Dyer everytime

I think Kieron should be given a crack. He's played at the highest level, under the greatest man ever connected to this club, in Sir Bobby. He is Ipswich born and bred and he has a heart on sleeve loves for our club, he gets our identify, who we are, what we're about. Sentiment aside, he is by all accounts, an excellent coach who would make our youngsters better players; very much sharing Burley's passion for youth.

We don't want a Warnock, Cook, Warburton style journeyman to come in whenever a vacancy becomes reality - we're Ipswich Town.

The likes of Jose, Pepe, got their knowledge from the great man himself.
Luis Enrique , Gary speed didn't do to badly either ( RIP Gary )
Could say what Sir bobby gave Jose, gave Brenden Rogers his own start in football with what he learnt too.

The fact Dyer has played under Sir Bobby, he played at ITFC under Burley and is working very closely with Butcher shows that he is imo next in line for a shot, he has to be. He knows what this club is about, he knows what and how this club has been successful in the past and he knows the downfalls of being a young footballer so can certainly help keep players heads above water.
