Schools announcements 18:21 - Dec 30 with 2616 viewsvapour_trail

Typically shambolic from Williamson and short on key detail for school leadership, teachers and parents. Finally got round to publishing some detail this evening.

Here in tier 4, my primary kid will be back next Monday, assume the secondary on the 18, but wouldn’t be surprised if that changes. Be interesting to see the impact of kids mixing again.

Great call to keep as many schools open as possible.

I find it remarkable that folk don’t consider the mental health element of children not going to school.

Terrible call if we want to stop the spread of this more virulent form of the virus from affecting an even larger number of the population. I assume you haven't been in schools recently to see how social distancing isn't being adhered to despite the best efforts of the staff you seem willing to sacrifice.

If the party making the decisions actually cared about mental health it would be far better funded and there would be Government campaigns and employment legislation that de-stigmatised mental illness. It is simply useful justification for their policies.

The main reason why the situation has been so bad for mental health is the ticking bomb that the general level of mental health in society already is.

Next you'll be telling us, we should be giving out free school meals to poor children as well.

I'm one of the people who was blamed for getting Paul Cook sacked. PM for the full post.

Of course there may be changes to that list:

So this hasn't gone down well at all it seems, the Mayor of Hackney has written to Williamson and posted it on Twitter asking to see the methodology given Hackney has higher rates than many other places where schools have been closed.

The leader of Greenwich council has done the same.

Everyone seems baffled by the methodology that has been used but I guess we shouldn't be surprised coming from this government.

So the primary school have just sent a letter taking this out of the government's hands. They are requiring a negative test before you can send the kids to school.

That's against the government rules of course but the whole thing is utterly shambolic from the government.
