Even if they end up fined the maximum £10k each (I don't recall any footballers having been fined so far?), that probably works out to less than 10% of their weekly wages, so won't have the least impact on any of them.
If you take the ethics and morality out of the equation, it probably seems like a good deal to them in terms of the cost of the party. It's the equivalent of someone on minimum wage paying about £30 for a night out.
The fines desperately need to be set as a percentage of earnings, and those in high-profile positions need to be made examples of. |  |

If true, and the games have been called off due to players breaking the law. The clubs involved should have be made to forfeit the fixture.
Not sure who Man City were playing, but that would focus the minds of the clubs.

I agree on your last point, but it's still a drop in the ocean to them.
When you're earning £100k+ a week, you can much more easily afford to lose two-weeks' wages than someone on minimum wage.
Imagine only taking home £115,761 as opposed to your usual monthly take-home of £230,595...
(and that's assuming that, in this example, the player in question isn't engaging in any sort of scheme designed to reduce their liability for taxation...) | |
