Yet supermarkets still allow hundreds of shoppers in without a care in the world

Little ones going to crowd together in schools next week despite boris advising covid loves a crowd

I can't believe with the oxford vaccine now available to they haven't done a full uk hard lockdown and push the vaccine as quick as possible. I get businesses down want to stay closed.. but the longer this pathetic tier system goes on the worse it is.

Just lockdown the island. Nothing in nothing out
All businesses closed army delivers food only care homes and NHS businesses open.

When i go shopping now Debsy, i go later in the day but before close to the closing time,( that way avoiding the last minute rush merchants). You'll be surprised how clear the supermarkets are sometimes. Stay safe but don't hide yourself away.

Thank you - I do prefer to go around 1045 to town as don't want to go any earlier so to avoid people trying to get to work and for pensioners to get stuff first. I am only generally up there about 1 and a half hours and that is including a half hour walk home. I try to stick to just 2 shops if I can, maybe 3 if desperate.

I think the problem after the November lockdown was that too many people were inside the shops, so the stores could profit with the Xmas shoppers. Ironically I only had to buy about 5 things for Xmas from the actual shops (smellies and chocolate that could not get in local shops), the rest was bought online!

Waitrose is for decent people. Except the school run Range Rover brigade and their dreadful children.

I like the way I'm greeted by name when collecting the weekly order.

Agree regarding the frightful mummies & offspring.

‘Mummy, does Lego have a silent t like Merlot?’
‘Darling, you can put the green token in one of the charity boxes over there. But make sure it’s nothing to do with gypsies or the local comprehensive’
‘Well perhaps you’d like to explain to my guests why Waitrose only have enough foie gras for x5 people’

There used to be a website called ‘overheard in Waitrose’ I believe.

The total number of armed forces personnel in the UK is around 195,000. The number of households in the UK is around 28 million.

I'll let you do the maths. Even if all 195,000 were available to deliver food (which, obviously they aren't),each one of those 195,000 would have to make four deliveries an hour for forty hours a week.

A logistical impossibility.

That’s roughly what I do as an online delivery driver

So all we need is 195,000 delivery vans with coolers and we are good to go...

If it was needed I'm sure it could have been done. They've had a year and we've got as far as going back to what we tried this time last year.

Am guessing the lead time on 195,000 chilled lorries might be a bit longer than next Monday.

Come on, seriously, I know it's frustrating seeing the virus seemingly never ending growth, but we only have a few more months and then hopefully the vaccines will kick in. Maybe if we had a year's preparation we could indeed use the army, but we don't. Even in China where they did use the army - they basically drafted in a shed load of soldiers into the Wuhan area rather than did it nationwide. It is a nice thought - but it really isn't a practical solution.

True to late now

But it's been over 12 months since the virus started here in the uk. They could have done more imo

Agree absolutely.

But we live in a society that values our freedoms. Our political leaders are libertarians (as am I) but I don't think this crisis needs libertarians in charge, rather strong leaders willing to make difficult decisions. Something sadly lacking at the moment.

Just heard on the radio that the new transmission daily case numbers are most likely going to double within 3 weeks which is the expected Xmas lag
