COVID outbreak in EFl 22:34 - Dec 31 with 1716 views | George25 | Although the new strain is one of the reasons Covid spreading rapidly through squads I do think clubs are not sticking to the efl regulations, such as amount of players in the dressing room, travelling to away game and using training ground facilities. So the season clearly going to have to stop unit there more regular testing and regulating more on how clubs are behaving.
COVID outbreak in EFl on 22:42 - Dec 31 with 1674 views | BlueBadger | Large groups of not-particularly-bright blokes travelling up and down the country on buses or planes for the purpose of spending a fair amount of time in close contact with other no-particularly-bright-blokes who've also travelled across the country is fairly likely to bring a certain amount of cross-infection, regardless of how tight your other practices are. And as in Spring, unless the EFL or FA fund the tests, it won’t happen as clubs will say they can’t afford it

Testing 30 or 40 people (squad + reserve/youth injury cover + coaches + other staff + some transport/admin/security people) on at least a weekly basis at, say, a generous bulk price of half the £120 to £150 you see them advertised on the internet soon adds up. On those numbers, £25,000 to £40,000 between now and Easter. At League Two level, that's a lot of money.

COVID outbreak in EFl on 11:08 - Jan 1 with 1276 views | Basuco | Paul Lambert said on 5 Live on Wednesday that Town had had 7 or 8 covid test's since August, 2 of which had been paid for by Marcus Evans, that means 1 test per month, if that has been replicated across L1 in general then you can see why there is a current surge in covid within the EFL.

The problem with testing is it can lead to a false sense of security and easing of the measures a club takes to maintain a Covid free zone . Only explanation I can think of as to why cases are not arising at every club.

Think it's simpler than that. If you can keep it out completely - which is partly a matter of chance and relies on all your opponents having a perfect record also - then well and good. But once you have one case, it's likely to run through the squad and associated people in no time*. * As is the case with families/households, which by far represent the most common loci of transmission.

I suspect the EFL were more surprised they even had to re-state these rules as they are fairly basic stuff, why on earth is any club not already doing this. the only tricky one might be the multiple coaches for travelling. but there you go other sports managed to successfully operate within a Covid secure environment, why is football different ? but then you see any televised game, players still spit on the pitch, wipe their nose with their hands before picking up their ball, still seem to be sharing drinks bottles and like to wear masks as chin warmers, whilst always elbow bumping and often following up immediately with a hand shake. a circuit breaker wont fix any of that

Every time a goal is scored the player is mobbed. that totally destroys any effort at social distancing during the week.

the problem is, we know that a negative test might not actually mean you haven't got covid at the time of the test...... so we see these players hugging etc, how many of these players tested negative but actually have Covid at the time of the match etc.
