No worries at all, she’s doing much better, is up and talking, hoping to be out next week. Thanks for asking.
I know what you’re saying and you are absolutely right, I’m just not comfortable with criminalising people for what they say or write. Surely it’s a better approach to let them say it and then explain to them ...
interesting one here as I know in the Second World War etc it would have been illegal to do / say stuff that could undermine morale so there is a precedent.
I don’t know if this sort of thing should be criminalised or not ... I’m just a bit uncomfortable as to where it could lead

I think the risk is forcing it underground where it’d become harder to dismiss and argue against - especially as one of the arguments appears to be that they’re trying to be silenced so if it does happen then, to them, it proves their point.

The problem you have with people - especially influential ones - being allowed to say or write what they want in a critical situation is that others will believe and follow them for who they are, rather than because of any valid arguments. They will also disregard counter arguments from people they don't regard as highly, particularly when that latter is something they don't really want to hear (e.g. restrictions).

Obviously, if everyone had been educated to a high level in analysis and critical thinking, they would be able to inform themselves and make accurate judgements. But neither schools policy nor media have been doing that in recent decades. The population have not been well equipped in that regard. Not their fault, just hasn't been done.

When you have a malfunctioning system combined with an immediate emergency, the remedies available are not necessarily the best possible ones.

Tho if you force it far enough underground, becomes much harder to propagate, too. People are less likely to stumble across it, let alone seeing stuff sprayed all over mainstream outlets and endorsed by significant numbers of influencers or their own friends.

I love it when No Deal Brexiters oppose restrictions because they “don’t want to crash the economy”, without any irony whatsoever.

Basically, they just support whatever is going to help them earn the most money and sod everyone else.

However, if it's forced 'underground' it's a lot harder to 'accidentally' and draw in more people.

Indeed. There are always going to be people with weird beliefs and prejudices.

It’s when these beliefs are normalised on mainstream media and social media platforms, and by mainstream politicians and influencers, that they become most dangerous. And I’ve not seen nearly enough of this stuff debunked or fading in the sunlight - quite the opposite, its presence has created a false equivalence.

Next stop, the Great Identity War of 2021-2024. I think that may even be reaching a new low too.

But things like this will cost British lives, and he’s doing it for financial gain.

It’s despicable.

Would you be ok with people going public with British troop positions/plans etc during a war? I really don’t see this as much different.

A line has to be drawn somewhere and I’m very comfortable that compromising public health in the middle of a pandemic is WAY over that line.

That’s why I mentioned about the Second World War ... obviously publishing troop positions and stuff would be well out of order but I think it went further, basically anything that could dampen morale was illegal. I guess at times needs must, maybe this is one of those times. I was just saying it makes me uncomfortable

These people are too many to mention in the British media and on the fringe of our politics. But yeah, Pearson is easily one of the worst.

But the quicker we cotton on to the disingenuous grifters and click baiters the better. I remember pointing out Maajid Nawaz a while back and some getting agitated by that - but people calling him out has seen him push into loon territory in order to still have an effect. The more they’re challenged the more they reveal themselves.

The fact that he's on the same side as Paz is what is crucial here. As he's demonstrated time after time, anything can be excused so long as it comes from his own team. There's absolutely no moral or logical consistency applied to situations. It's a never ending loop of mental gymnastics and the only time an opinion is ever slightly reconsidered is when something happens in the real world that actually impacts Paz directly.

This time we get told that any attempt to prevent the spread of lies and misinformation of Big Chief Gammon as a shocking attack on the freedom of speech, but previously, showing BLM support in the form of taking a knee at EFL matches is frowned upon.

Come on, it's not hard to see what the real motivation always is.

That’s fair enough.

I think we’ve all been forced to accept things in the last 9 months that we would previously have found unconscionable.

Whatever the legalities are/should be though I think this is demonstrable proof that Tim Martin values the pound in his pocket over the lives of his customers. Not a great look.

Not at all. Citizens United shows the horror show that happens when you give business the same rights as people. It's not a concept that should be encouraged.
