Lockdown abuses mega thread on 10:54 - Jan 5 by Mookamoo | Anyone - and I do include myself at times - that uses 'just' in a sentence to justify a rule break. There are a lot of people just popping to see friends and family etc. Somehow adding 'just' implies a tippy-toe way of doing things where the virus wont notice. Maybe this time round with a lot more people being directly effected and personally knowing someone hospitalised we'll see a change. |
Trouble is... 'just' makes up over 50% of the word 'justify'...

Lockdown abuses mega thread on 12:01 - Jan 5 with 698 views | Churchman | As said elsewhere, my neighbours have been on holiday, had people around, been to parties and basically carried on as normal apart from a massive moan up because ‘ma kidz are gettin’ on me nerves not be-in at school’. Apparently it’s a ‘disgrayce’. She was convicted a few years ago for benefit fraud and they pay cash for a top of the pile Range Rover and big 4x4 he uses for work every other year. You get the gist. On the upside, they are quiet and considerate in all other ways and keep their house nice, so it could be worse. The silliest thing I’ve seen is the monster bloke at the petrol station wandering about without a mask, only to climb into his monster truck next to his monster partner, only to slap a mask on. How thick can you get?

Lockdown abuses mega thread on 11:51 - Jan 5 by DebsyAngel | I meant in town, we have signs saying "keep left" yet nobody takes notice. The arrows that were marked on the ground have washed away and faded, but still can see posters on lampposts. Also don;t see it being adhered to in shops much now (not that I go in that many). |
Ah, I hadn’t seen those - thinking about it I don’t think I’ve been into the town centre itself once since March The arrows in shops aren’t being adhered to as pretty much everywhere has long since removed them, in my experience anyway

Lockdown abuses mega thread on 10:47 - Jan 5 by BloomBlue | and that's a fair point, but for me it's about what is essential. My neighbor wants to go clothes shopping for her it therapy, walking about shops looking at clothes, trying them etc and she sees that as essential shopping. Now most people won't see clothes shopping as essential. but what for one person is essential isn't for another . But why should we say alcohol & cigarettes are essential but clothes aren't or Costa being open isn't essential, because some people we see Costa being open as essential for them. For me essential should only be essential for living ie food and for me alcohol & cigarettes aren't essential in that context. Maybe I would relent on deliveries but personally I think it is still resulting in 'hey pop round I have a few beers in' |
Sounds to me that you wanted to make a miserable year even harder for people.

Lockdown abuses mega thread on 10:04 - Jan 5 by BloomBlue | I'm the same with supermarkets selling cigarettes and alcohol neither are essential to live. Now I like a beer at the pub as much as the next person but it's alcohol that is often the fuel for people getting together it should have been banned from day1, including deliveries. |
Anyone who wants to try and stop me having a beer or a glass of wine after a shift is welcome to come and try and take it off me.

"For me essential should only be essential for living". This statement is clearly absurd. Ignoring the fact that for mang people the answers to the following would be 'yes', do you need a book to live? Do you need football to live? Do you need music? Do you need a hobby? Do you need all foods to exist? Maybe people should just get a potato and a jug of water once a week. Only a fool would think reducing living needs to food rations and a dry room to sit in would somehow improve the situation. As far as statements go, it's not far off from those who say people on benefits shouldn't be allowed to buy booze and cigs. Reading between the lines I doubt expensive wine and cigars would be banned under this proposal, if you know what I'm saying?

I suspect that this is a thinly veiled 'how dare poor people buy nice things', possibly.

If it helps, your internet connection which is enabling you to spout your brainfarts about Essential Things on here is not 'essential'. [Post edited 5 Jan 2021 14:20]

Lockdown abuses mega thread on 10:21 - Jan 5 by C_HealyIsAPleasure | Not quite the same but I have a friend who was all over FB on the first lockdown moaning about people going out, posting memes talking about how grandfathers had to go to war and we’re just being asked to sit inside etc (you know the ones). Yet now it’s a constant moan about new restrictions and how ridiculous this is. Quite laughable I do think I must live in a different world to the rest of TWTD though as really can’t say I’ve spotted much in the way of people ignoring the rules, or knowing anyone that has taken the p*ss. The odd small stretching of things yes and certainly seen small changes in behaviour with people not distancing as much in supermarkets and so on, but when I see threads on here about people having people round all the time or youngsters in shops without masks I just don’t recognise it. Perhaps I just live and shop in the right places |
Dunno. There were a number around here the first time who seemed intent on being a nuisance, but behaviour generally has improved since to be fair. Maybe as it's all slowly sunk in a bit. There's been a couple of feckers doing the rounds robbing local shops though, taking advantage of the Covid measures and what with being masked up n'all. They did 2 of the shops here last week, making the most of the one door in, another door out one-way system. One walked in holding a coffee, dropped it on the floor and whilst a staff member was helping him clear up the other was filling a bag from the shelves. Over a hundred pounds worth of meat from the chiller. I hate thieves. [Post edited 5 Jan 2021 14:28]
