This is the only place i know where i can rant during my time out, Gav delete if appropriate but i just need to vent
I knew what i was signing up to, working in a hospice, of course it's all about end of life care, but in literally a matter of days, this place has turned into a covid death hotel, We're all stressed, crying, sweating, i feel weak, not physically but feel like i should be manning up or something. I don't know the people that come in here, but this is usually a place of giving someone a dignified last few days, now i see a name on a piece of paper, i see them carried away in the private ambulance, I clean their rooms and in 30 minutes we get the next patient, it's a conveyor belt. We've taken on extra patience, to help local hospitals, but it feels like we've opened up a covid hotel, 99% of patients coming in have covid, the day centre has been converted into a covid ward, we now basically have 3 covid wards. Turning away visitors desperately seeking to say goodbye, not enough staff or time to set up video calls, angry family members blaming us, i've been cursed more than i ever have done before in my life. Watching staff wipe their tears and not knowing what to say, I've literally had enough tonight.
Anyway i've got to go back now, thanks for letting me have someone to vent. |  |

This is as good a place for that as any and as it's clearly necessary for you to let off about how you're feeling then carry on.
It sounds really awful though, you are very much at the sharp end of something most of us are only seeing as mounting numbers on tables and graphs. Each of those individuals is a human tragedy, a life gone too soon or a death with far less dignity than they or their families would rightfully expected. And far less dignity than you as staff want to give them.
It's crap and will be for a few weeks more so as well as doing your job well, make sure do take the time out for yourself, spend it with your family or do something that is beneficial to you. None of this manning up bull sh1t, what you're going through at work is hard so don't bottle it up and feel free to post on here. |  |

That sounds horrific. Vent away whenever necessary. 'Manning up' certainly isn't the answer here. Not sure many would cope but I guess you front line staff aren't getting the choice and that's why we keep hearing about people extremely stressed, emotional and exhausted. It's completely understandable. Not much we can say to help really other than thank you and I hope when this is over and the government are trying to take credit that we remember people like you and there is some form of thank you. |  |

Sorry to hear about your situation.... you probably don't have time or headspace at the moment, but I noticed that you've been exercising and losing weight on the love lockdown thread, so make sure you keep doing the stuff that is good for you. Eat healthy, move, get fresh air. They all help you cope, which is all you can do for things that you can't change.

I can't speak for everyone but these posts are welcome and do get through to the rest of us. We will speak to our partners, work colleagues etc, so I hope you feel the vents are doing more than just you letting off steam.

Sorry to hear that mate and you are doing an incredible job, a side of the story we don't often hear.
My mate is an undertaker and collects the bodies from care homes often and he says it so much worse than people think, some of these places are like morgues!
I'm from South Oxfordshire and we have it as bad as anywhere in the country I think.

We're all seeing what's deemed to be horror stories on the news but seriously , we don't know half until the likes of yourself actually has time to raise their head above the parapet
My other half works for the NHS in quite a high capacity and not front line THANKFULLY and I hear no end of awful stuff

That sounds terrible. Feel free to vent away, I always find a good rant (particularly in writing) really helps!
Remember not to take any abuse you receive personally; you're just doing your job and as the face on the front line you unfortunately get the results of the relative's grief.

That's absolutely awful, please vent away - not just for yourself, but it's actually things like that which the rest of society really needs to know about & get a proper understanding of, in order to both get on top of Covid19 + support those like yourself who are at the hottest, sharpest coal-face possible, and keeping our communities going.

Keep up your good work, and don't apologise for venting.
It's a horrible situation we find ourselves in, and would be even worse were it not for people like you. Keep working hard to give these people a comfortable, safe and dignified end, Covid related or otherwise.
Lets be positive and remember the reasons we now have to be more optimistic, thanks to the wonders of science.
