"Security officers removed Covid-19 "deniers" who were taking pictures of empty corridors at a NHS hospital where the intensive care unit is at maximum capacity, its chief executive said."
Mr Hulme said hospital security had to "remove people who were taking photographs of empty corridors and then posting them on social media, saying the hospital is not in crisis".

Hmm....not sure I am with you on this list.
Couldn't find Isabelle Oakshott but after a quick scan of the others I can't see anything along the lines of empty hospitals or Covid is all a hoax. Sure there are some anti-lockdown positions and anti-school closures etc. but for me this is not in the same league and I think we need to be careful not to conflate reasonable arguments against Government policy with the complete lunacy that is highlighted in the OP.
I think it's spelt "Oakeshott"
I'd add Allison Pearson to that list..
The problem with these people is that they don't quite go the full covidhoax, but they enable those who want to believe the hoax - if you want to know how words and perceptions matter, look for Ellie Mae O'Hagen on Twitter, she has some interesting stuff about framing conversations about conspiracy theories..
You are the obsolete SRN4 to my Fairey Rotodyne....

Sure, I'm aware of the power of language and perception in general but I would say it works the other way as well. The Government has its own 'behavioural insights' team and most of the language they use is carefully scripted to try and obtain the outcomes they desire. Obviously with somebody as bumbling as Boris at the helm they still make many mistakes!
I think it is very dangerous to shut down reasonable discussion and opinion just because a few fringe loonies misinterpret the message. They just need to be dealt with accordingly. If we are ever left with a society where only the official Government narrative is acceptable then we have basically turned into North Korea, and i'm sure nobody wants that.
I will check out her page though, thanks.

My niece is a nurse there and she is absolutely raging about these nut jobs. Apparently they have a large following in Colchester for some bizarre reason.
It's large and growing in Essex - the average person here seems to think it's either entirely fabricated to enforce some sort of great reset or just the flu. Facebook (and YouTube) is the prime source of the nonsense and really needs to be tackled, we're in a situation of national emergency and this amounts to an act of sabotage against the state trying to save lives - whatever we may feel about our Government, and Governments change, these people are little more that information terrorists spreading fear, panic and misinformation based on their own paranoid delusions or in large cases because they get a laugh out of people falling for their made up stories.
It's killing people.

They should've been escorted down to where the Covid patients are. How on earth these people think you could get every country in the world to collude on something is beyond me.
They should be escorted into a ward full of Covid patients, shackled to the wall, and left there.

Don't know the first two.
Think the last 3 would state they are lockdown sceptics rather than CV deniers.
There is a big difference tbf.
Disagree I’m afraid. 2 cheeks of the same arse.
It’s the same thing we see with Brexit, Trump etc, these people use their platform to spout nonsense that just about stays the right side of the line but they’re shamelessly dog whistling and emboldening the dregs of society. They know exactly what they’re doing and they don’t care that it costs lives.
I’m not saying they should be silenced but we shouldn’t give them even a veneer of respectability, they’re marginally more articulate versions of Katie Hopkins.

One of the tinfoil hat brigade sent me one, hoping for some kind of gotcha moment. I said that appears to be the outpatients section which is essentially closed, they haven't replied.
Alcohol is the answer but I can't remember the question!

For me there's a debate to had around the type and length of lockdown we need. What has always annoyed me most in when it is presented as a financial cost v lives saved debate - without recognising the human/social cost of lockdowns.
That said, I don't disagree we need one at the moment - not at all. (As much as I fcking hate it)
Shame that the most vocal public voices highlighting the downsides of lockdowns all seem to be the far right Brexit/Trump fans as you highlight.

I'm not (like some on here) one to string these people up, but you do have to wander wtf is going on in their heads.

Yeah, you’re completely right.
It’s also quite possible that I’m letting the vile nature of the messengers influence my views on the message, they’re just such a bunch of (insert word Phil doesn’t want us to use) and they’re always on the wrong side of every debate.
If you listen to any of JHB’s shows for instance, she may not deny Covid outright but she sure as hell won’t challenge those who do.

Exactly this, they say enough to embolden their audience whilst just about staying right side of the line.....until they stop getting enough publicity and they just stray to wherever they need to to keep earning money

I don't follow any of these guys - other than when they appear on the MSN channels as guests.
But the few times I've seen the Martin D bloke - it does feel as if half of what he says is around taking a position, almost to appeal to his natural fan base. Going on to review the papers and saying "It's a difficult judgement than needs to consider xyz" isn't really what they are after I guess.

Unfortunately the brutal truth is that lockdowns work and control the R, it's clear now from looking at the case graphs across multiple countries before and after lockdowns.
The decision is simply issues around human/social/economic costs as you point out or large amounts of deaths (and not just in the elderly cohort anymore). You are certainly right that there are valid concerns made by both arguments.
It's also worth noting that without lockdowns a lot more people globally would have been infected and that gives the virus a huge reservoir of opportunity to mutate into something much more nasty (think C19 infectiousness with SARS/MERS mortality). Doesn't mean it would have happened, just the probability of it happening would increase.

Absolutely.
People who state they don't work are talking bollx. They do and they are never claimed to do anything more than hold back / reduce the spread of the virus. Which is exactly why I think we need one now.
And I'd argue that in the summer we right not to lockdown, when the rates were low and the outdoor mixing led to very low transmission.
As ever, it's the absolutist positions that are hard to listen too / stomach.
