Some great news amongst the gloom 14:22 - Jan 6 with 784 viewsBluefish

We sacked roy keane 10 years ago today. It is scandalous that we still employ the man that against all odds snatched the worst manager in our history tag from him

That is class

This was my big def info on twtd although I was banned at the time (I can tell you are shocked). I emailed Phil the info and it turned out to be true.

Oddly it came from a mate who had a mate at the BBC that worked on Motd. No idea how they knew but it was given as cast iron def info

What is watching an Ashes down under like?

Has always been good humoured banter with the Aussies when I see them at England games but wondered if the banter can turn to hostility when actually on their home patch?

What a ground that is Joe... old skool pavilion elements* and in a good part of Sydney. That must have been quite the experience, 2011 - Jeeze 9 years ago since we appointed someone so wholly unmatched to Ipswich as a club and the rebuilding project Marcus needed to initiate.

*I picked litter at the MCG to earn my bus ticket to go grape picking many many moons ago - a colossal stadium, but soulless compared to the SCG. I do like Adelaide Oval, very modern, but they've retained a mound under the scoreboard, where I've only watched AFL - mental game. Would be great to be on that as part of the barmy army.

It's good, a few annoyances but you get over it - silly rules like not being able to stand in the beer queue until you've finished your drink etc.....

Main thing you notice though, with regards to hositility, is that the Aussies simply stop watching or even coming when they are losing. Look at the MCG crowd on the afternoon of Boxing Day when England ripped through them, and how many turned up the next day - that's very different to here where people go if they have a ticket and stick it out regardless

I did, the MCG and the WACA also but only for Big Bash games. MCG is just humungous and soulless really but a greatplace to go in the sports village

Good fun. There is a grudging respect from them towards how vocal our support is. They would always be happy to chat cricket afterwards in the bars afterwards too. Mind you, they were slaughtering us on the field towards another 5-0 so can't comment on what they were like in 2010-11.

I've got a few Aussie friends and that is pretty much them in a nutshell tbh. If they're winning at something, cricket, rugby whatever then they just don't let up, it's relentless. If they're losing however it's as though they just pretend it's not happening at all.

The worst was years ago when they beat us at football, think kewell scored, good God they wouldn't stop for weeks.

No idea when I began here, was a very long time ago. Previously known as Spirit_of_81. Love cheese, hate the colour of it, this is why it requires some blue in it.

Keane, like Lambert was kept on far too long. Keane should have have been sacked by October 2009, Lambert April 2019.

I'm one of the people who was blamed for getting Paul Cook sacked. PM for the full post.

I disagree, Keane should never have been allowed within 50 miles of IP1 ever.

Done a few tests down under - 98/9, 02/03 and 17/18.

Aussie cricket fans can be a bit feral, especially when they are winning and drunk. But they are generally harmless.

Watching them trying to sing is quite funny, they are clueless and aside from "Aussie aussie aussie" don't seem to be able to sing much. They now have a semi-organised lot (all in yellow t-shirts) who often sit together with song sheets that make an effort, but they just look like a bunch of sun burned budgies to me.

Last trip down under was mentally hot and at the SCG on one of the days was mid 40s. Sydney hit 49 that day on the outskirts which was the hottest place on earth that day. Lasted about 15 mins in the sun before heading to the shaded bar. Never known anything like it tbh.

Great trips though it is getting more expensive. First time I went it was 3 dollars to the £ and 3 dollars a pint. Last time it was over £7 a pint ffs.
