In effect, skilful squad management — in terms of minutes/workload — **should** now be all that stands between us and promotion.

So 'close' as long as you discount about 7 regulars who won't be available this week. That's quite a spin.

Getting there would probably be more accurate.

He was ready in December but then had "complications."

Trust the process. Trust Phil.

Most of the squad in full training by Monday I'd say counts as "close."

Probably accurate that. Certainly not near a full strength squad for tomorrow.

Going to be more like the squad we had at Burton.

Couple of games now where we'll get 'not match-fit', 'haven't done much on the training pitch' etc before they're all back in the treatment room again.

Joy.

When we are beaten tomorrow, we'll here that about all of the players.

'A long-time off, need to find match fitness again'.

Can’t be far away from Skuse retiring from playing. And what was Wilson’s injury? Thought he was just dropped (unfairly) for the Arsenal kid.

Clearly good to have a number of these individuals back and getting into contention. You’ve got to think a few like Downes, Bishop, Edwards, KVY and possibly Norwood are shoo-ins for the starting XI when fit.

But “spoilt for choice” also comes to mind. I get slightly worried that we’ll be back into a rotation to get everyone fit and it disrupts/delays the team establishing the sort of pattern and understanding it’s lacked for pretty much Lambert’s entire tenure.

It feels insane to say that, of course.

With the schedule we have I think it would be ill-advised to slap down the same first XI game after game after game, even if that's an option.

The theory should be that everyone knows how to play when they come into the team, so the rotation of players is less of an issue - the CF knows if he comes in he will be playing up top on his own, knows what areas of the piutch he should be occupying and how to play effectively

That’s a fair point, of course. I’m just desperate to see a team emerge that’s equal to the sum of its parts let alone greater.

This feels like a crucial few months that could dictate the next few years. We’ve had an expensive relegation, we’ve stayed down a year extra, had to manage the losses from Covid and the wage cap is going to kick in properly soon. If we get to the summer looking at another season in League One then we might well start setting ourselves up for the long haul at this level.

We just need to win lots of football matches 😀

Well, New Year, players fit, unplanned mid-season break. If we're ever going to start moving up the league now's when it'll happen!
