Evans can't be this incompetent accidentally.

Whether in business you're mainly a data person or rely largely on intuition, or as in most cases a mixture of the two, the only explanation for Lambert still managing our club is that Evans doesn't consider promotion is anywhere near as important as the fans do. Make of that what you will.

Why bother ffs.

He clearly owns this thing he doesn't want and just doesn't know what to do with it.

He's certainly not driven by it so really needs to be letting it go.

Don't they have like a bi-weekly 'Do you want to buy a football club?' magazine in the UAE or Saudi or something he could advertise us in?

Or he just could show a f*cking interest.

Don't forget he would have heard our supporters say over and over that they are happier in league 1 with PL than they were in the championship with Mick. It is an uncomfortable truth for many but it was said over and over. It was also displayed in the stands.

The most emotional we've actually seen of him was recently when he decided the fans were to blame for his mess.

And radio silence since. Again.

That's absolutely the point; and indeed in many ways it now suits Evans to be in League 1;

- he can reduce costs yet remain competitive in League 1
- salary cap will be an excuse for this, and given our size may enable him to make a small profit
- why would he want to ITFC to be in the Championship (where his losses will need to be much larger to even retain our status there)
- best to stay in League 1 and hope post Covid there is a huge shake up in football finance, particularly for the Championship
- also doesnt have to pay-off Lambert...

I wonder at times if we make too much of this 'going on behind the scenes' thing, and that the actual problem is that there isn't anything going on at all where there bloody well should be.

It's the constant whining about how the financial goalposts have changed that annoys this correspondent. Yes, that is undoubtedly true, but lots of other, smaller, poorer clubs than us are playing in Championship or competing at a higher level in League One than we are.

It's a question of knowledge, direction and organisation, all of which we are severely lacking. and have been lacking since MM's departure on the football side.

Indeed.

The one point against all that is we aren't rally worth anything in L1. He has next to no chance of recouping anything like his loans and losses if we can't compete in the Champ.

Unless fans keep going and the majority don't bite back, and as a well supported and historical footballing club, he figures someone may still come in for us in L1. That relies on us fans...

He's taking the p1ss.

It has been pointed out several times that our revenue will drop in league one but I agree with you. Overall it's much more attractive for Evans to have us in this division breaking even with the occasional promotion or selling of an asset to help things along.

This slow but constant systematic decline is our future. It's time for the people who can't see it to finally open their eyes. We simply have to make a stand when it comes to renewals...as a few of us said a couple of years ago and were roundly mocked (no apology necessary Rommers x). How much further do we have to go before people take action?

As for the people who say that might be the green light for Evans to put even less in and see us fall to league two what bloody difference does it make? Accept eternal slow decline or take a chance and fight for the club?

We must cut off all funding. Do it now if you can bring yourself to. You're bailing out a man worth £0.75bn (yes only on paper, whatever) who gambled with our club and lost so he's making the entire fan base pay for it.

This weird idea crops up over and over again, but it doesn't make any rational sense for Evans to want the club in League 1.

In the Championship the club has higher revenues and is worth more. Evans isn't obliged to set a competitive budget for the division we're in, he could tell the manager the budget is £10m and just to deal with it, if he wanted. He can't simultaneously want to stay in League 1 and be worried about increasing the budget if we get in the Championship (he'd just not raise the budget in the Championship and let the chips fall where they may).

If he wasn't bothered about promotion from League 1 we wouldn't have the best paid manager in the division, we'd have a *much* smaller squad and we'd have sold Judge, Downes and Jackson when opportunities arose.

Finally, the huge shake up in football finance you say he's waiting for has already happened. From next year the Championship will have a maximum budget roughly equivalent to our 2018-19 revenue.

I think Evans is more sanguine about spending several years in League One than most supporters are. I also think he wants to give Lambert every possible chance to succeed. But nothing about his behaviour suggests he has some irrational desire to remain in L1 forever.

This. The constant woe-is-me narrative from Evans is very very tiresome. A pathetic defeatist attitude that runs through the club.

I agree he has no desire to remain in L1 forever. It's clear however he's not too bothered if we do.

We wouldn't anyway because L2 will beckon sooner than the Championship.

There is still hope we can put a run together this season with players coming back. Lambert has demonstrated for some time he's is as likely to fook that up as succeed with what he has.
