Replacement “Free Lunch” boxes that have replaced £30 vouchers 20:10 - Jan 11 with 7996 viewsElderGrizzly

The cost is about £5.22. For 10 days of food.

Have the Government done what the Government do again and pay a private company a fortune for next to nothing?

I was against free school meals in the holidays. I’m not against them in term time!
It can’t be right that that is for 10 days. If correct it’s absolutely ridiculous and needs to be fixed as soon as possible.

My only point is that some on here get a bit too sweary and a bit too personal at times. I have been guilty of it on occasion but realised it’s juvenile and diminishes ones arguments.

Are some councils still doing the vouchers?

This is utterly despicable. The people profiteering from this should be stripped of all their assets.

At uni I spend an average of about £7.50 a week on food (and from Aldi so money goes a little further). I try to keep a balanced diet, at least three fruit and veg a day etc. I came back home for Christmas to find I'd actually lost weight, despite weighing less than 10 stone when I'd left. Evidently I hadn't been eating enough.
£5.22 for ten days is nowhere near enough to eat healthily.

Because you're a craven sociopath who, despite all their professed desires for niceness and decency you're only paying lip service and shedding crocodile tears over the notion?

Wow I missed that it was for 10 days. I assumed it was for 5 days! That is an absolute disgrace. Barely enough food for 5 days. Can't believe that is for 10 days. Some **** has clearly skimmed as much profit off the top of this as possible. Literally stealing food away from kids.

And more insulting that someone feels that vouchers of the amount cannot be trusted in the hands of the parents instead.

They'd rather give away free money to some corrupt firms while kids continue to go without.

What do you buy if you don't mind me asking?

People do live below the line challenges on £1 a day. Might be worth a look if that level of spend if by necessity and not choice.

Also: you can't have it both ways. You can't whine about people 'being silenced' for breaking T&C's o public forums and then also start policing people's language.

Tone policing is an act of the moral cowardice.

Wasn't your argument that the parent/s received benefits so they could provide for their children during holidays? By the same logic they could also send them to school with a packed lunch IF they had enough money to do so. Your argument makes no sense at all. It's not like hunger switches off when kids aren't at school. In fact they are more likely (in normal times) to be active and needing more calories than sitting at a desk for 5 hours a day.

Truly impaired.

I'm glad you can see the issue with what is being served up now but I can't agree with your stance on free school meals in the holidays.

We are the 5th richest country in the world, nobody should be going hungry no matter what the circumstances.

Good for you that you are managing to keep to a healthy diet and a strict budget.

It was a long while ago admittedly but my uni days were filled with crispy pancakes and potato waffles not to mention the pint, hours pool and burger offer for 3 quid or whatever it was.

I could make all kinds of things for very little nowadays but back then I didn't have a clue. I'm glad you're cooking and budgeting already, will serve you well in life.

But the child isn't at school during holidays so they still need the food. £20m a week. Less than £1 per income tax payer. How can you oppose this? The Tories have wasted a fortune in taxpayer money and this is the stand you choose to make?
