I like to travel as fast as the road conditions allow, which means on occasion shading the limit.
However, there are a number of environmental factors which significantly reduce what road conditions allow;
Ice
Fog / most
Any / all other damp / wet roads
The dark
Not an exhaustive list, just examples.
Fog at this time of year will also inevitably equal damp roads, even ice, don't care how good this fella thinks he is, it's not about him.
So many ways it can go wrong.
