New manager - what do people expect to change? 15:58 - Jan 12 with 3657 views | NorthLondonBlue2 | So, the drumbeat of 'sack the manager' has started up again. Seriously, what do people think will change and be different with a new manager in League 1 (Division 3) in 2021 from all of the managerial appointments from the sacking of Burley onwards? There's far less money around now than before, so forget about any major new signings. Is it just that a new manager will be so superior with tactics and our current squad that the results will be radically different? The catalogue of injuries, and injury-prone players will evaporate? Hard to see this as anything other than the latest stage in the club's ongoing death spiral.
New manager - what do people expect to change? on 16:02 - Jan 12 with 3079 views | BlueBadger | In a word, yes. The current squad(of players more than capable of competing in this division/the bottom of the Championship) is being woefully mismanaged and is in dire need of some proper tactics, coaching and motivation. We'll still have underlying structural issues, but it's far easier to work on them in the Championship where TV money and crowds are likely to be better. [Post edited 12 Jan 2021 16:24]

New manager - what do people expect to change? on 16:06 - Jan 12 with 3045 views | Steve_M | You're correct that a new manager is not a panacea but it comes down to a simple question: is Lambert getting the most that any competent manager could out of these players. He clearly isn't, he got more out of them at the start of this season and - without believing every rumour - has lost the respect of most of the players. A new manager does not need to excel tactically or motivationally to be better than Lambert at the moment. The Sky commentators seemed surprised to see us struggle on Saturday, yet we have all seen it several times before this season. We are already looking at a third season in this division without a change and it may well be a lot longer.

New manager - what do people expect to change? on 16:06 - Jan 12 with 3051 views | itfcjoe | Anyone who looks at how this squad of players and how Lambert is setting them up and thinks he is doing a serviceable job is beyond help. The new manager doesn't make all the problems go away, but if you've got subsidence on your house and your boiler blows up - you don't say "well no point fixing the boiler because the house still has subsidence". New manager - what do people expect to change? on 16:08 - Jan 12 with 3038 views | homer_123 | There is no doubt that with Evans in charge the overall likelihood of success is poor. However, Lambert is something that can be changed more easily and readily (along with the coaching and physio staff etc.). Given the squad at Lamberts disposal another manager could get a lot more out of them and promotion from this division (at least) is eminently possible. Changing managers is no guarantee of success but it is obviously clear that with Lambert in charge we are set to repeat last year. Evans is going nowhere but we can change Lambert and his team and at least a new manager might get something out of this team. It's the one thing that can change and we need to make it happen.

Pfft - attempts on goal is overrated - possession stats is where it's at Illy.

The ability to realise that 2 up top is the way to go with this squad. The ability to realise the likes of jackson. Sears. Judge are not wingers Being able to utilise the midfield options we have to their best ability Not asking for us to lose games but win the possession stats

New manager - what do people expect to change? on 16:14 - Jan 12 with 2977 views | MrTown | Ideally.... I would like a manager with a good track record - a Danny Cowley, a Paul Cook, to come in and attempt to salvage this season, although coaching this lot after so long without being coached will be tough. New manager will get to see first hand that there is a lot of deadwood horsesh*t across the field to clean up, and that can be done in the summer with a bloody good clear out. Given what league we may be in, they will have some sort of blank sheet + remaining player (mainly the better ones) to build there own team.

What changes would we expect..... on 16:17 - Jan 12 with 2965 views | Bloots | ....from a different manager? Well: I would hope that a new manager would improve the players ability by coaching them better. I would expect a new manager to improve the style of play by playing to our strengths. I would expect a new manager to improve the morale by communicating better with the players. I would expect a new manager to adapt our tactics to counteract the opposition style rather than being so predictable. I would expect a new manager to be able to change tactics during a match in order to change the flow of the game. These are basic skills that a football manager should possess. Ours doesn't. Lambert out.

New manager - what do people expect to change? on 16:33 - Jan 12 with 2890 views | jaykay | ive said it before, lambert can not improve any player he is charge of. the youths when they come through to lambert, become static in their improvement under lamberts tactics that is a mark of good manager, even if your player is rated millions or thousands. e.g. sterling

New manager - what do people expect to change? on 16:35 - Jan 12 with 2884 views | TieDyedIn95 | What worries me is this. Within a few months of taking the Ipswich job, Lambert went from being genuinely passionate, enthusiastic, caring, fighting and positive about turning this club around to looking like a beaten, irritable and broken man. When he started his sleeves were rolled up and he was looking willing to get the work done. We were all enthused as a result. Just 2 months into the 2019-20 season and it was a different man. The question I raise is how much of that is Lambert, who came in like a divine wind, a savior, and is now a broken shell of his former self ... and how much is it to do with Marcus Evans and Lee O'Neil's total mis-management of the club behind the scenes just causing Lambert to in effect, give up? In any other form of work when you have a new employee come in superbly and then within months fall into that state, it's usually the fault of the people that person is working for. Poor leadership is usually the cause and a toxic work environment the root of it. That feeling of defeat, mediocrity acceptance from Evans, trickles down to Lambert and then the players. Lambert hasn't done a good job, but have the conditions existed behind the scenes to enable a good job to even be done? I doubt it. We might have the 2nd biggest budget in the league but if you have someone steering the ship who's blind, your still going to hit the rocks regardless of how good the ship is, or how good the crew are. We've been told that the owner will not compromise on the style of play, but he shouldn't be dictating that aside from a broad goal to the manager. If Lambert is being hemmed in by a football hobbyist-owner like we have seen at so many other clubs then there will be little else that any new manager can do either. Let's look at the facts, Evans left Mick to run the club until he left. He was largely hands off. Once Mick wasn't rehired after an absolute fiasco of a situation where the former manager was still managing the team rather than a new manager - which would have allowed a new man to have gotten a taste of the league/team ahead of the new season - and then quit, Evans decided to take a more direct role in running the club. He, replaced the experienced Milne with O'Neil (a PE Teacher) and hired Hurst. Since Evans has had this more hands on role, we have seen two managers, a relegation and back to back seasons in the third division for the first time since the 1950's - so while I accept Lambert has failed, all signs do in fact point to the man at the top being entirely to blame for this mess. Evans is the problem.

It would be nice to have a manager who doesn't ban independent journalists or accuse people of being drunk when they ask him a question. ie Someone with general human decency.

The more time goes by the more and more I am seeing in David Artell if we could get him. His personality is rough around the edges but he knows how to mix youth and experience and will be chasing promotion in the Championship within the next 5-10 years

A proper footballing structure is high on people's agenda, particularly a DoF with experience within the game, so we can mitigate ME poor decision making.

Let's not go over the top with Milne... he knew sweet FA about football or running club, running a corporation plenty but not football... he was no better an appointment than O'Neil... he just looks better because his tenure was earlier in our decline
