If we beat Burton.... 12:18 - Jan 13 with 3161 viewsunstableblue

.... with Norwood and Downes getting fully up to speed in a positive display

And then we went on to beat Posh and Sunderland, or at least win one draw one, with a much improved display....... would you change position on Lambert MUST GO?

Very unlikely, and I probably wouldn't. Not enough 'cash in the bank' for Lambert as Mick Mills stated.

But it would give some credence to his main excuse of injuries.

I personally think Burton you will see fairly early on how the players are backing the manager, some of the blame is definitely with them.... i think the harsh words were probably as much from Wolf and McGuiness to the midfield forwards on a lack of movement/energy....

Interesting times.

Well that is the problem. If we Burton, Posh and Sunderland then he shouldn't go because he'll have us in the play-offs.

But how many times have we said, well IF we beat Portsmouth, IF we beat Sunderland, IF we beat Lincoln.

No - in the same way many haven't come to the decision they want him to go based 4 or 5 games.

1. He got us relegated without even a smidgen of a push at trying to stay up
2. We whimpered out last season after a half decent start
3. This season is a carbon copy of last
4. His and his coaching staffs continuing inability to be able to sustain any kind of decent football/ pressure on an opposition for many than short periods
5. Our inability to create and take chances
6. His and his teams inability to get the best out of seasoned pros or up and coming youngsters

Need I go on?

The Swindon result has put doubt on Burton being the secured result it might otherwise have been, and the win against them at home a few weeks back was hardly convincing.

That's before we get to the games against teams that are actually good.

The main reason I wish we had the injured players back was so Lambert couldn't use them as an excuse and Evans might finally realise what the problem is. If we did we could probably scrape through some games a bit more comfortably but with the best will in the world it won't be enough on its own.

Just because I don't care doesn't mean I don't understand.

I would look at this the other way round.

If we don't get a win at Burton, followed by what seem like inevitable defeats against Posh and Sunderland, then that has to be it!

The only issue there is that it would be the end of Jan and no new manager could make player changes.

So hard to be positive!

If we won those games then everyone's feelings would be different. If the players you mention were back and doing well then there would be grounds for hope. And if those two things happened then there is no way whatsoever that ME would sack him, and it actually would be weird and wrong for ME to sack Lambert in those circumstances.

A more useful thought experiment might be:

If we lose those three games, or fail to win any of them, how many Season Ticket Holders will renew?

It’s the Marcus reign disease isn’t it?! As you say... just how many times have we said MUST WIN game, or let’s SHOW UP for a Sky game

I repeat my point the other day... Keanes Ipswich completely failed to turn up for the Robson memorial game, that still irks me

Yes but ME has been told:
1. It was Paul Hurst's team, the damage had been done
2. We just had a small blip, we were about to play like 1970 Brazil when Covid curtailed the season
3. We've had lot's of injuries - which is just down to bad luck and Covid, nothing to do with inept sports science or our fitness coach working from 400 miles away....

My stance wont change even if we get promoted, he's the wrong man for the job.

Any "success" he achieves would be despite him, not because of him.

Lambert out.

This. Lambert has proven time and time again - and not just with us - that he’s an incompetent football manager. He should have been fired a year ago but here we are.

Alternatively, if we fail to beat any of those three (highly plausible and nailed on if we play no better than Saturday), we could be more than 6 points off the play offs, in mid table and not many more than 6 points off the relegation zone.

We are in a downward spiral and anyone who keeps looking at it as "if we only win the next ... games" has their head firmly buried in the sand.
