School meals part 2 13:17 - Jan 13 with 617 views | Basuco | Sir Keir just read out the government guidance for free school meals to the PM, current guidance published by the department for education is exactly the same as Chartwells provided. Government policy and recommendation is being carried out by Chartwells, why is this now deemed unacceptable by the same government that drew up the requirements for the meals in the first place?

Doesn't really leave the government anywhere to go except to admit it's clearly rubbish and to amend the advice. It's appalling and has to change immediately. As an aside I saw a headteacher saying that in the last lockdown they actually bought the food themselves from a supermarket and they got far more food of better quality for a lot less than they have to pay the suppliers normally. The whole thing is totally repugnant. Companies are basically stealing a living based on ensuring that kids have the least possible food both in quantity and quality allowed. SB

Apparently one reason is that schools have existing contracts with meal suppliers which they have to pay regardless of whether the kids are in school and thus they have just continued with those. If there are meal vouchers they have to pay twice. At least this will highlight how broken the school meals system really is. SB
