... thinks that homeless people can afford a 5k deposit. EVen by today's standards, that's the most tone deaf political statement I've seen in a while.

Just read the article ... I don’t think he put it quite like that ...

Hard to really know what to say to that.

He did sofa surf though so clearly he's an expert on the subject.

Pressed by the interviewer on whether he was suggesting a homeless family in bed and breakfast accommodation could afford a deposit, Bailey replied: “Not all of them, but some people could. A full proportion of people could.”

Except he did.

Then spent the rest of the article attempting to roll it back and reframe the statement when he realised it was stupid. He even tried the "I've been there gambit" before realising that he couldn't have afforded it either.

Come on Paz, you don't have to defend the idiotic just because it's blue.

Yeah so two things:
1) he’s not talking about a homeless guy sleeping in a shop doorway as the headline implies.
2) he says ‘not all of them’
I don’t necessarily agree with him on this one but the headline is a little sensationalist

A bit much to call me ‘odious’ when I’ve merely observed that a headline is a little misleading.

If you're a family staying in B&B accommodation you are homeless. Why do you feel the need to wear your ignorance as a badge of honour?

Where have I said they are not?
I merely point out that by using the term ‘homeless’ the headline invokes images of someone in a shop doorway

Only in the mind of an unthinking Tory cheerleader. Most other intelligent people recognise that homelessness comes in several forms.

His first instinct is always to defend the Tory. He has absolutely no empathy for anyone who they may have wronged. It's sociopathic, and entirely predictable.

You're all missing the point. He's going to offer shared ownership for as little as £100,000! He's practically giving them away. Just liquidate one of your trust funds.

Truly impaired.

It was a very confusing set of responses from the Tory ‘candidate’. If the article is accurate, he quite frankly doesn’t know what he’s talking about and would have been better off avoiding the topic of housing or preparing better. I suspect his chances of getting elected are zilch regardless of what he mumbles.

So your two contributions to the thread are that the headline is misleading and it doesn't matter what he said anyway. Great input as ever, Paz. Not a word pointing out what a total berk he is for thinking a homeless family in London can pull together a £5k deposit. Amazing stuff.

Fornicate this Tory government, and fornicate anyone who was stupid enough to vote for this bunch of sociopathic charlatans.

I'm v happy with my "if Paz says it's alright, it's really not" stance.

It serves me well.

Please note: prior to hitting the post button, I've double checked for anything that could be construed as "Anti Semitic" and to the best of my knowledge it isn't. Anything deemed to be of a Xenophobic nature is therefore purely accidental or down to your own misconstruing.
