I'd say anywhere where school children go missing by force of arms is a pretty scary place.
I don't know the ins and outs of that situation though and won't pretend to.
We will discuss it over a beer or 4 sometime I hope.
I had an old friend who worked in East Africa for 7 years, for a kid's charity. She was based in Nairobi but the work took her across a few countries around the Eastern side which included Somalia and time spent in Mogadishu itself. She would say it was intimidating at first but soon learnt there are rules one can live by. | |

Listen Nigeria has it's problems. Clearly.
What annoys me is when expats over play the risk to them without recognising Nigerians have it worse, way worse.
So Police brutality, used to get plenty of police intimidation but was never shot at by them. Armed robberies, locals got it worse as they had no security to protect them. Malaria, expats had access to medicine and a driver to get them quickly to hospital, many Nigerians didn't. And fraud, biggest victims of Nigeria's infamous 419s are Nigerians. Always have been. And you make a valid point about the threat from BH.
So yeah, it is dangerous - but way, way more dangerous for the locals than a well protected expat (Which is the point I was trying to make) | |
