My guess would be that our world beating track and trace contacted him five days after the positive contact either tested positive or first displayed symptoms. |  |

Yes, it will be that. It's especially bad if someone hasn't got the app so they rely on a phone call to identify the contacts. It was a week before I had my first phone call; but didn't answer as I was too busy being ill and phone was probably off. And they didn't phone back, so I was completely missed. |  |

Well quite.
And as others have said and I thought too, it must have taken 5 days for track and trace to have informed him of his contact with a Covid positive person. That was apparently via the app and not even reliant on a phone call. That is appalling. Why haven’t the media taken this up?
From personal experience having contracted the virus around 4 weeks ago (thankfully with only moderate non debilitating symptoms and now having made almost a full recovery), I can confirm that track and trace was totally ineffective. I know exactly how I caught it and from whom. There was no message from the NHS app (which the person I caught it from has been running as well as myself) until I had tested positive. The message and a couple of phone calls just told me to isolate 10 days from the onset of my symptoms which of course I already knew. There was no attempt to alert me to the infecting contact or to question me re any potential subsequent contacts I’d had.
£12 billion! World class my arse.
