The James Maddison interview 11:28 - Jan 20 with 2263 viewsBluefish

The way he is so bought into the manager and the team and so focused on the performances. It really really reminded me of Mick McCarthy

Oh how I miss that man

That was pretty close to happening from memory wasn't it. Imagine he'd have probably ended up as the manager if it did.

That was what I was thinking. Yes, he held talks:

Rodgers Holds Town Talks 22nd May 2010 10:00
TWTD understands that former Watford and Reading boss Brendan Rodgers has held meetings at Portman Road to discuss becoming the club’s assistant manager. Last month, we reported that Rodgers was top of Roy Keane’s list of potential deputies, the Blues boss having decided to appoint an assistant at the end of the season. 38

what do you miss about Mick?

getting rid Mick is not why we are where we are but rather the decisions made since.

Indeed. Getting rid of Mick was the right decision, it was those that follow which have been the issue.

That shows that no one since has been anywhere Mick's skill set of getting a lot out of the little we had. What managers are about who could do the same, do you think?

no terrible recruitment killed us after Mick left. Coupled with the collapsed siege mentality the Mick instills meant we had nothing.

Literally thousands of managers in the world could come in and do a job, it's about finding the right fit. The way people think only a select merry-go-round of washed up British managers are our options is frankly laughable.

As things stand, with us in this division with the squad and budget we've got, any manager ought to make a decent fist of automatic promotion.

I miss everything

I miss having a manager to be proud of
I miss having a team to be proud of
I miss going to or watching games with an excitement, anticipating if we would win....even and especially against the big teams
I miss feeling part of the club with the togetherness of the players
I miss the genuine warmth of the guy
I miss seeing a team with a plan
I miss signings that add something and come good against the odds
I miss the championship
I miss the kids being trusted
I miss a game plan and tactics
I miss his beautiful face
I miss good old TC and his shooting drills
I could go on all day

There were a few people sounded out. The names I heard at the time were Michael Appleton, Ian Holloway and Tim Sherwood, who had previously impressed ME during the interviews before Hurst was appointed.

Cheers, Ollie would have been an interesting one, purely on the fact that he wouldn't have put up the white flag in that penultimate championship season.

Is this the first stage of your regular meltdowns on TWTD? Pining like a lapdog for a manager who has left a few years ago.

The history is firmly written and signed by many since Mick has gone. Those that put their names to Hurst and Shambert will always carry the stains

Totally agree with you there. It was terrible recruitment since Mick. If only there was a younger Mick mark two about with better knowledge of newer coaching techniques and tactics aligned to our squad limitations.

or even a younger George Burley who can do all that Mick did but with style and success.

Or hell, even a younger Sir Bobby Robson!

There are certainly elements of Mick's reign that we could benefit from right now.

Not sure what you are trying to say there. I was trying to say that you do not know what you are getting when taking on a new manager until he has been here for a while. Robson was given pelters early on in his time here. Ferguson was doubted for the same reason. Best try not to be too clever when you reply sometimes.
