Have a day off: "The British decision is in marked contrast to 142 other countries around the world where the EU has delegations and where its ambassadors are all granted the same status as diplomats representing sovereign nations." They represent 27 of our nearest neighbours and are our biggest trading bloc. This is a pathetic decision designed to play to the most base morons only. [Post edited 21 Jan 2021 8:25]

So you’re saying that whilst in the EU, the UK was in fact still a sovereign state, and all this talk of independence, is in fact a load of balls?

We were a sovereign state who’s sovereignty was being eroded by a trading block we had signed up to years ago. Trying to represent us diplomatically by having an ambassador in different countries presumably acting on our behalf is just one example of this.

Things aren't that straightforward though; they tend to be a bit more nuanced. The article makes explains the diplomatic implications of taking such a stand and how we would be alone in doing so. Sure, we could play hard and fast and have such a ruling, but at the cost of better relations. And better relations tend to come in useful when you want something, such as improved access to EU markets.

It will get a few positive headlines from the terminally short-sighted but works entirely against the UK's interests across any timescale one cares to look at.

Our sovereignty wasn't being 'eroded', we chose to pool some of it for the common good, and for the good of people in this country. As we do every time we sign any kind of treaty with any other country. People like you aren't living in the real world. Edited to add: I presume you think you're a patriot. You do not get to wrap yourself in the flag and bleat about what a patriot you are, whilst at the same time supporting actions that damage this country, damage the lives of its people, and damage our standing in the world. That's not patriotism, that's treachery. [Post edited 21 Jan 2021 9:01]

Despite the EU, we’ve always had and will continue to have ambassadors and diplomatic relations to individual EU states. You’re being silly and small-minded.

He's just being tribal. If the Government had given an EU ambassador equivalent rights even though no other country had, he'd be defending that too. The actual subject doesn't matter an probably hadn't been herd of anyway until this thread. The main thing is to oppose and try to own the libtards.

Well done, though, the Brexiteers have now won thanks to Brussels surrender after 20 days of this siege.

Although when all's said and done it's just somebody speculating these things might happen. Probably somebody at the express making stuff up.

I agree, it’s needlessly petty. Sadly, both sides are being needlessly petty. The EU are making cross channel trade as difficult as possible for political reasons (unnecessarily in my view) and the U.K. is being awkward with this and no doubt other things too. As I’ve said before, countries and blocks are about people and jobs. Making life difficult ultimately harms them, who when it comes down to it aren’t interested in silly people posturing in front of huge flags.
