He's been trying to get out of press for months, first manager to stop pressers for midweek games, stopped doing the cup games.
If he isn't fit enough to sit and do 25 minutes with the local journos, then he's not fit enough to be doing his job.

In any other industry this neglect of the basic duties of the role would end up getting you the boot. Football is utterly mental when you think about it. You can be grossly incompetent and even wilfully negligent and still not get sacked without getting a huge pay off. | |

The midweek thing does seem to be a wider thing rather than just here. I believe Frank Lampard may have instigated the midweek press conference being dropped when he was at Derby.
Of course, Jim went months without attending pre-match press conferences - John Gorman did them and if I rememerb Bryan Klug had done them for a spell prior to that at some point - until the last few weeks of his time here when they lasted about seven minutes.
