CLUB STATEMENT: DISAPPOINTED WITH MEDIA STANCE 20:34 - Jan 24 with 10671 viewsDublinBlue84

https://www.eadt.co.uk/sport/ipswich-town/evans-backs-lambert-again-7069150

"While we are very disappointed that the EADT/Ipswich Star has taken this stance, we fully understand the frustrations of supporters with recent results.

The performances and results of the opening stages of the season have not been mirrored over the last two months or so and the manager, staff and players are fully aware that there needs to be an improvement if we are to achieve the goal of promotion back to the Championship this year.

Owner, Marcus Evans, has recently reiterated his support for the manager and with players now coming back from injury and the recent addition of Josh Harrop and Luke Thomas to add competition to the squad, he - and everyone at the Club - remains fully behind the management and players in the challenge ahead.

We are two points off the Play-Offs with games in hand on nearly all the clubs above us and we have not yet reached the halfway point in the season. There is a lot of football to be played yet, 75 points up for grabs in what is a very challenging season on many fronts.

So yes, we understand the frustrations of the local newspaper and yes we understand the frustrations of the supporters. The manager, his staff and the players are frustrated as well but they are determined to turn those frustrations into celebrations."

The other one is:
" we have not yet reached the halfway point in the season."

Suggests he's got two games to save his job.

Soft touch Town yet again, I can only suggest as others have, hit them in the pocket, it is our only weapon against this mess. Cancel season tickets, Ifollow and anything else that gives them revenue. WE HAVE PUT UP WITH THIS RUBBISH FOR TOO LONG!

"We are two points off the Play-Offs with games in hand on nearly all the clubs above us"

This statement pisses me off more than anything to be honest.

We have no God given right to be promoted, but targeting the Play Offs in League 1 is a ridiculously low bar to set. We absolutely should be targeting automatic promotion.

We have no right to achieve that, but it should be the absolute minimum of our ambition.

...but do signatures really work?

I don't think they could stay silent on the local paper calling for the manager's head. They might as well write a sign saying 'sacked in the morning' and pin it on his back if they did.

I think the astonishing thing about all of the club's statements is the extent to which they just memory holed 2019-20 entirely. They act like Lambert started work on June 1st 2020.

They could just keep quiet as opposed to pouring petrol on the flames that currently destroying the club.

Absolutely no way they could ignore it. And if they did people would be sitting here saying 'why hasn't the club responded' which is what happened with the blue action stuff. I think ignoring the local paper would be too big, especially as this is so direct.

It is worth pointing out there is no mention of Marcus Evans being disappointed, for all we know he already knows what he intends to do and when.

He will of course leave it longer than he should.

What logic is ME basing this on? Yes, we might be 2 points off the play off places, but we might as well be 20. Look at how we are playing and have been for some time, we can’t beat any decent side in the league and are now struggling against the lesser opposition, we rarely get into the opponent’s final third and create such few goal scoring chances we won’t win games consistently to get us in those top 6 places. Why can’t he see that? This blind faith that our form is going to change I find totally baffling. PL and his coaching staff have shown that they just aren’t up to the job over the last 2 years, but they keep getting these votes of confidence, surely that should be telling in itself that things aren’t working out? I thought the poor owners were those that consistently interfere with footballing matters, but ME is beginning to show me a whole new level, the quiet ones that have low expectations and no passion for their team are just as bad. I’m even more convinced now with this response that ME is more than content for us to remain in L1. How our ambitions and standards have declined over recent seasons. ITFC is now officially a basket case of a club.

Total shocker that owner who has made no intention of sacking the
Manager, continues to not want to sack him. Obviously the wrong decision but the doubling down is almost commendable.

The total shocker us that so many still seem to be unable to grasp the significance of awarding a manager a 5 year contract when the club has been in such a mess for so long.

The length of contract reflects the amount o time Lambert has told Evans he needs to turn things around.

We have never really recovered from the crippling damage Sheepshanks caused. No manager is going to be able to simply wave a magic wand, and it is all sorted. Look up the road. The scum put in place a long term plan and stuck with it, despite all the howls of rage that Farke should go, at various times.

NO manager is going to join us and instantly turn things around, after having previous managers having the remit to get us promoted at all cost. That all cost has been .... at all cost. A short term policy that has left the club on its knees and in the 3rd tier.

Stamp your little feet and cry about how unfair it all is. But that is the reality, and no bedsheet waving will change that.

Certainly agree with some of your points, however by now - 2 years down the line - you’d like to see some level of improvement on the pitch and that we are building something for the long term. PL has got no plan, he’s not building a team he still doesn’t know his best XI and the way we are playing is certainly not a side that is a progressive one, we’re going backwards and at a rate of knots which is hugely concerning. If I could see a project slowly developing I’d be far more content and forgiving, but there’s literally nothing to hang your hat on. PL is also giving me the impression he wants out, but he certainly is not going to walk away with 4 years left on his contract.

Imagining that any football club can afford itself the luxury of a nice half decade to turn their fortunes around is beyond delusional. There are four football league managers who currently have the tenure that Paul Lambert would have if he sees out his contract.

None of them started off with 2 and a half seasons of failure.

Harry, Farke had them promoted to the PL after 2 years, there was an obvious direction despite some pressure early doors.

There's no sign of direction here at all. No clear plan in place.

Sorry, it's not comparable.

If they were going to sack them they were going to sack him. If he has a number of games to save himself they're not about to make it public.

No surprise that this statement has been released but many-a-time a statement of confidence has been released one week only for a sacking to follow the next.

The dreaded vote of confidence.

We are two points off the Play-Offs with games in hand on nearly all the clubs above us and we have not yet reached the halfway point in the season. There is a lot of football to be played yet, 75 points up for grabs in what is a very challenging season on many fronts.

Yes and if we had at least a half decent manager we might actually make the playoffs but we haven't we have his Paul Lambert.

If Marcus Evans really believes we can finish in the playoffs despite all the daminng evidence to the contrary with this Joker as manager he really is even more clueless than what we all thought.

Of course there is no right for any club to be successful in any league, but there should always be a relative bar a club sets it's self in what it thinks is successful.

It's the fact they deem to think ITFC challenging for the payoffs in division 3 is enough. It isn't. This club should be competing for top 2. Being in the playoffs at the end of the season should be deemed a failure!

As for finishing 11th in division 3, that shouldn't be acceptable to ITFC ever.
