Yes, Root will be important to England in a small chase. I've not watched a lot yet this morning but the wickets to spin suggest the pitch is spinning more than earlier in the Test.

This is right in the balance. Every run tilts things more in Sri Lanka's favour. I'd probably fancy us to chase under 180 purely because of Root and to a lesser extent Buttler and Bairstow. Over 180 starts to look daunting with the ball turning on days 4 and 5. |  |

It's a low enough total that you only need one batsman to get in and a couple of others to offer support. I make England slight favourites but it's very tightly poised. If we lose Root cheaply it'll be a struggle. Ideally the openers show up and get us to 40 at least, but Sibley is looking well out of his depth so far this series and his limitations are being exposed. | |

That was a great knock from him to be fair. Stayed in through the innings, kept the scoreboard ticking over, and let the more eye catching batsmen take a few risks to get the total down. Textbook run chase in the end really. | |
