Sacking of Magilton; non sacking of Lambert 12:48 - Jan 26 with 1229 viewsHarlestonblue

So Jim Magilton gets us up to 8th/9th in the Championship and WINS A LOCAL DERBY (the last time?) and Paul Lambert takes us to 9th in League One (probably lower if he stays). One full division lower or 24 places in the football pyramid of 92 clubs. Lambert does nothing to arrest our slide into the third tier for the first time in 60 years.
Which one gets sacked? Why Jim Magilton of course. I see. Actually I don't.

Problem was it was THE time for Evan's purchase of ITFC to bring him the return on investment he thought would be easy.
Keane took Sunderland up with Ease with money. Evan's felt he could do the same with town. Gave him money to spend and we got the likes of Martin and Priskin

Then the rest is history. Evan's ownership is now an I convenience for him.

Of course this gives us some perspective on Marcus Evans' ownership of the club too. His stewardship of ITFC has seen us fall a full division down the pyramid. How much lower will we go with him?

Exactly. And Evans had inherited Jim as manager. He gave him money & watched the ream get worse over the next year.
So he then appointed Keane, gave him money & watched him make the team worse.
So he appointed Jewell, gave him money &watched him make the team worse.

That’s been the big problem and perhaps an indication that the problems at the club aren’t financial at heart.

Also adding Hurst’s disastrous summer of spending and Lambert being able to acquire as big a squad as we’ve ever seen, then throwing money and new players at the problem really hasn't helped.

The only time the slide was halted was when Mick was in charge and had to work under tighter constraints. Although there’s clearly a happy medium of giving him more money when we were on the up and challenging for promotion and especially not tightening the belt as extremely as in his last couple of seasons.

But there’s no doubt that when we are leaner we’ve been better than the flabby mess when we chuck money around. That forces the manager and the club to focus on getting the basics right.

"That forces the manager and the club to focus on getting the basics right."
I don't think the recent managers or the club are getting that bit right.

I agree it's all a big mess.

Now we have ME reluctant to change manager as he thinks that is a bad policy. Which is a bit rich when you consider how many he has employed in his time!

Trouble like many I want Town to win games but the only way Lambert will be sacked is if he loses more games and we get nearer to relegation

Not to mention that the fans were getting on Jim’s case big style...Evans ended up defending him in the matchday programme. He still got sacked a few weeks later.

There are of course all sorts of nuances to that, but history observed simply makes Evans look like a fool. And he continues to fook it up by doubling down. He can't be happy, which damningly is the only thing he has in common with his customer base. It's an absurd situation and he's not such a fool as the Emperor from the new clothes parable. Or is he?

What does look more telling in hindsight is the way Magilton was treated.

We all said at the time he was not any kind of Town fan but that didn't matter. We were wrong on one count, badly wrong.
