"What message does it send to our academy if we bring loans in from the PL? 12:36 - Feb 4 with 2401 viewsitfcjoe

Interesting from Darragh MacAnthony about what they are doing at Peterborough, from about 12:20 to 15:00

https://anchor.fm/darragh-macanthony/episodes/EP39-The-January-Transfer-Window-e

2 players for each position, with youngsters as the back ups, trusting them, moving them on, etc, believeing in the (Category 3) academy and their recruitment....

And they are above us, and finished above us last year.....

Exactly what’s the point in funding for an academy and not using the talent. It’s pointless might aswell go down the Brentford route and just have a b team and pick up players that have been released by other clubs.

Exactly what we should be doing.
If we let all 100 out of contract seniors go in the summer, save 2 of our more un fancied players in Donacian and Wilson, would still leave us a first 11 of:
Holy
K.V.Y
Wolfenden
Wilson
Kenlock
Lankaster
Dozzell
Downes
Nydam
Hawkins
Norwood

And subs from:
Cornell
Donacian
Ndaba
El miz
Dobra
Mcgavin
Nolan
Morris.

Really cant see how we could be any worse off than 11th in the league with that next season easily top 6 with a couple of freebie experiences league 1 players.
Oh and a half decent management and coaching team.....

I never understand this clamour to be like Peterborough. Sure they have a good transfer policy and good recruitment that makes them money, but at the end of the day they have been in League One in 2013 and never been close to going up other than maybe last season. We might be worse at the minute but i think a good transfer policy clearly makes them look better than they are.

Peterborough have got through 13 managers in the last 11 years, including the odious Steve Evans & almost as odious Graham Westley. They have spent all but 2 of those years in the third tier.
While I think they have a good record of developing & selling on young talent, I doubt Town fans would approve of a plan which involves largely staying put in the 3rd tier & selling on young talent to minimise losses.

They look more likely to get out of L1 than we do currently, on a fraction of the budget.

I don't aspire to be Peterborough, but they are basically a club of Colchester's size that are ahead of us at the moment due to running the club well.

If you gave their decision makers our spending power, they'd be streets ahead of us

You say on a fraction of the budget Town has...but they seem to get good money for their players when the6 sell the ...like Brentford do. So they’re hardly skint! We time and again let players go rather than get a fee for the. Or for younger players get peanuts .

Lamberts “ system” or 1 up,front hasn’t worked since he’s been here , so why persist with it. We really do have the squad to get out of league one , if onl6 a manager knew how to get the best out of his players.

They've done what a club of their stature needs to do to compete with clubs with more resources - been clever, innovative, and invested in the infrastructure of the club. They've made themselves sustainable and generate revenue they are then able to re-invest by running a smart business model. A couple of years back there is no way they'd be signing players like Szmodics and Clarke-Harris. They are a club doing all the right things and one that is upwardly mobile.

The thing we should be worried about is that from next season, we will not have a financial advantage so we are going to be badly run as well competing on the same financial footing to far more of these clubs.

I think that's untrue.
In recent memory Town have sold the following:
Tyrone Mings £8m
Connor Wickham £8m
Aaron Cresswell £3.75m
Not exactly given away. Granted, we disposed of the likes of Jack Marriott, Jordan Rhodes, Kieffer Moore & Conor Hourihane largely because we weren't prepared to develop them - the classic short term v long term question.

I'd argue Peterborough and Colchester are similar size clubs though Joe

Certainly don't aspire to be either , it would be good to just have our own model , plan and working platform that worked for once

A plan & a structure that they stick to and enforce.

We’ve unfortunately allowed PL to sway away from any plan we want to implement.

It's gutting. My son was at a league 1 club a few years ago. First year pro, captained reserves, been on the bench but as a defender never got on. The club brought someone the same age as him from a premier league club on loan straight into the side - son ended up released the following year as the manager said ' he needed to be playing'.

I do agree on your latter point in terms of we will be in trouble next year as we suddenly find ourselves under the same restrictions, but upwardly mobile for Peterborough is a bit generous.

Finished 6th, 9th,13th,11th,9th,7th and 7th in each of their seasons in League One. Considering the players they have had in that time, that is so poor. Also been through Steve Evans and Darren Ferguson twice in that time, two of the most awful people in football. PL is a saint compared to them.

They have half our support base and barring COVID, would've improved their league position 5 years in a row, all whilst selling off the better players for profit.

Does anyone know what the points were, and whether we've accomplished any of them? Was it a "work through them in order" type deal? If so, how many have we done?
