North Stand songs of the 60's 13:02 - Feb 9 with 2958 viewswoodbridge_blue

I was explaining to my son some of the more familiar chants the North Stand used to enjoy in the 60's, when I became unsure of one line in the song "We all agree, Hancock is better than Yashin"

Did we used to sing "Crawford is better than Eusebio"....I have a vague recollection that occasionally it changed to "Broadfoot is better than Eusebio".

Or is that my fading memory playing tricks?

Crawford for me,. Don't think Broadfoot was ever used. First song I can remember being sung was the 'keep right on to the end of the road' but that died out by the end of the 60s.

Same here - my (pretty hazy) memories of PR in the 60s are now just me and my Grandad singing “Keep Right On”.

Hancock is better than Yashin and
Crawford is better than Eusabio and
City are in for a thrashing....

We're better than United and
We're better than the Kop
We only finished 5th last year but
This year we'll be top.
(was sung in the 1967/8 season)

"OO OO JUNGLE BOY, OO OO JUNGLE BOY" (Ray Crawford)

I remember my dad and his mate used to call each other Jungle Boy...I can confirm that it is no longer acceptable to shout JUNGLE BOY across a busy pub....

You can't polish a turd....but you can sprinkle it with glitter!

True, just that I can remember pockets of fans in every stand joining in with that back in the mid 60s. Faded away, becoming the Birmingham City anthem unless my memories wrong

"Hancock is better etc" is one of my favourites.

Not a song, but when the Lunnun sides came, their fans in the North Stand would chant at us (with a false west country accent) "Fertiliser", to which we would reply (with a false cockney accent) "Soap N water", not forgetting the glottal stop in wa_er. of course.

We are the pride of East Anglia
the talk of land
we hate cocknets
all northerners and (NORWICH)
we drink gallons of Adnams
and Tolly Brown
The Ipswich Boys are in town

There was a slightly rude 2nd verse as well

Apparently it originated with Birmingham at the time of their 1956 F.A. Cup Final.

I will always associate with us and 1961/62 though.

It has been the Birmingham song since the 1950's I believe. We stopped singing it I think in around 1972. That year we played them in the FA cup at St Andrews losing 1-0. Over 40,000 of 'em sang that very loudly so we gave up!
That game if memory serves me correctly was Paul Coopers debut for Birmingham and Mick McNeils final appearance for Town.

Yes, after Swede although I think they overlapped for a while.

Apparently the tails of his coat here set alight at Millwall in 1966.

Posted before, but I lived in the midlands for a few years and drank with many blues fans.

One night in the pub they were singing "Keep right on" and when they got to the line "We're often partisan la la la" an argument developed as one lad was adamant it was "We're off to Pakistan, la la la"

He was far from happy he'd been singing it wrong for 30 odd years.

Isn't there a picture of the boy doing a dance in his full town kit on top of the dug out with swede and the lady witch before a night game. Probably title winning season or the one after!
