Things that were true the last time Ipswich Town were this low in the football league:

Winston Churchill was prime minister.
Rationing was still in force.
Jamaica was still a British colony.
British Armed Forces were fighting in Korea.
Elizabeth II hadn't been coronated yet.
Len Hutton was captain of the England cricket team.
Tony Blair had just been born.
Sir Bobby Robson was playing up front for Fulham.

The last wasn't true ... he was simply Bobby Robson then.

One wonders how much further we have to fall before Evans acts. Lambert came in with us cut adrift at the foot of the Championship but he has only taken us backwards from there.

Thought he merited the posthumous honorific in any case!

I wonder if Fulham currently have any decent forwards with one eye on management, or for that matter if Spurs have any fullbacks coming to the end of their career looking to take the next step.

The next manager to bring us success will be Serge Aurier or Aleksandar Mitrovic?

Robson was an inside forward or half back. The equivalent of a midfielder.

If we follow the trajectory of that team, we will be champions of England within the decade.

1953 was the year I was conceived. Both my parents were Town fans so I suppose, as the football was like it is now, decided to brighten things up and have some fun instead

And, a fairly big one, the East Coast of England suffered disaster. Only that time it was flooding rather than football.
