Evans is the problem 00:12 - Feb 17 with 5705 views | captainfantastic | For once I agree with Lambert. You can change the manager all you like. Evans and the structure of the club is set up to fail. Until this changes we will keep sliding

Evans is the problem on 09:38 - Feb 17 by MonkeyAlan | Evans IS the problem. Useless owner. Clueless when it comes to football. Although Lambert is a massive problem too. He has never been the answer as manager and his coaching staff are a joke. |
Have you tried believing harder?

I honestly don't believe he does and that's another part of the problem, he might invest in us financially (to the bare minimum), but he doesn't emotionally. Expect PL to be in his post for a while yet.

I think it's just about money, sack him now and pay up 4 years of contract - £2m or wait until he's failed at the end of the season and I'd guess the pay off would be something like 1 year - £500k. I'd argue though a new manager could give us a bounce and we're still capable of getting promotion so we'd make more than what we've have to pay Lambert

We've got so many issues currently, it's like using a plaster to cover a huge chasm. A new manager might come in and give us that little bit of help we need, but it's going to take a huge investment to make us even remotely competitive in the Championship otherwise it could be embarrassing and we thought last time was appalling. It's another 'quick fix' in the hope it takes the heat off our owner. There's clearly fundamental problems at ITFC and until the club, properly assesses where we are going wrong and addresses these areas instead of ignoring them and hoping they will self right themselves I can only see the success of a new manager getting us so far before we hit that glass ceiling again.

To be fair, if that is the situation then hard-headed statistics would tell you not to bother. End of November after Charlton it might have been worth it. After losing to Swindon in January still probably worth a go. Now? Last stats I saw had us with something like a 2% chance of making the top 2 and an 18% of making the top 6. Not something you chuck a quarter of your annual budget at.

If you take his investment into the 1st team..... on 10:14 - Feb 17 by itfcjoe | Yep, this is the key - for all the structural failings Mick sat us in the top half of the Championship consistently because he was a good manager who got the best out of his resources. Any manager who succeeds has to do that, Lambert doesn't |
The recruitment of Paul Hurst killed us. We got rid of our seasoned Championship players and replaced them with Lg1/2 standard players. BUT, recruitment should be made above manager level. The club has to have a philosophy regarding playing style and transfers and changing of managers should suit this. That way, when a manager or player leaves you can fill the hole and bring in replacement to fit said style. Rather than our current system where a manager leaves, we carve up the entire squad (at great expense) and restart all over again.

Evans is the problem on 00:19 - Feb 17 by captainfantastic | football players and managers come and go, that's part of the game. The club always remains and the club needs to have a philosophy, in terms of playing & recruitment. We should be signing players who will fit into our philosophy, and having a manager to fit. Then when a manager leaves, you bring in a new one to carry on their work. Changing the manager who has to rebuild a whole squad to fit their own style every time is too short term and will never work. |

If you take his investment into the 1st team..... on 09:30 - Feb 17 by Bloots | ...in isolation, we should be fine. The issue is that all his investment goes into the first team, because he won't spend money anywhere else. This would get us by (nothing more) if there was a competent manager in charge, as we had with MM. But as soon as a bad appointment is made and the 1st team starts to fail then all the cost cutting around the club comes home to roost. The club is like a house of cards.......and it's collapsing. |
That's exactly how I see it Bloots, you've explained it far better than me with my numerous attempts to add a reply - nail on head. Have an uppie! [Post edited 17 Feb 2021 16:42]
