The almost total clamour which engulfs all things Ipswich Town at the moment for the sacking of Paul Lambert , is slowly being replaced by a spotlight shift toward the man who appointed him and having done that , put 5 years worth of chips on the scotsman to lead us back to the championship..
Like most of Evan's decisions since buying the club, this has not worked out too well.
The one and only time , his managerial appointment did look to be flickering into some sort of success, he kept a firm grip upon the purse strings and refused to back a Mick McCarthy play off bid, and this too ultimately fizzled out.
I have no doubt he started off with good intentions, though sacking Magilton and giving Keane and his signings upwards of 20 million , should have given us clear indications as to the degree of his football nous ( or total lack of) .
Since then despite devising 5 year plans and at least trying to make contact with supporters, he has continued to waste his money on a plethora of loans whilst maintaining we must produce our own players. 5 years lucrative contracts for managers who have done little else but overseen relegation. And yet more wasted millions on non productive faces like Oneil.
It has always been the case, that the only way back for Town is to produce our own team. Evans may have said this himself many times, but saying and doing are completely different things. The millions he has wasted on loans wages over the past few seasons have not only kept our own players out of the team , but have also prevented us from spending that money on maybe one or two young players to add to our squad with potential.
Now , we have got to the stage, where this continual mis- management , threatens the very existence of the club, yet again the team is (half) full of loans , we will be going back to square one at the end of the season, no team is taking shape, no direction or plan. The club needs stripping back to the best of our youngsters, it has done for years. Unless it actually happens very soon, it will be too late.
