Would be typical that we win tomorrow.

1-0 Town win. Own goal. Hull miss 2 penalties.

It feels like every single home match has been a variation on the same theme: evening game, they turn up, play ok but nothing special and win comfortably.

The stand out exception was at the end of Mick's first season. We still lost but it was to a late goal against a side heading for promotion and there wasn't much in it, Wordsworth headed an equaliser that day.

Edit: I do know we're away tomorrow (although it makes feck all difference this season). The worst performance of the lot was probably our last visit to Hull, the one where Hurst had had an international break to work on his 'system'.

Thanks Steve - I'd forgotten about that last visit (or at least had pushed deep down in the memory file).

As per the match preview, Jim was manager last time we beat them, May 2008. That final day game when we just failed to make the play-offs, if I remember rightly.

I think we needed a win and about two other results to go our way as well though which was never really going to happen.

It is a necessary corrective to some of the Hurst revisionism that is circulating at the moment.

Yes, and as usual those results didn't go our way. They never seem to on the final day of the season, do they?

Except for 14/15 - Derby losing 3-0 at Reading kept us in sixth.

And of course, the famous final day of 93/94.

How come we’ve played them 14 times since 2010 and I can’t remember a single one of them?

I was remembering all those last days at Portman Road when fans were cheering non-existent goals at other grounds and the clubs we needed to win were hitting the woodwork multiple times.

I watched the last minutes of 93/94 unfold through the window of Dixon's in Hull. Finally when I saw John Wark raise his arms I knew we were safe.

That kind of record against such a nothing club as Hull is utterly depressing.

I remember when we stuffed Sheffield United 4-1 last day and needed Bradford to not win. We missed out again and went on to lose to Bolton in the play offs. However it did give us the great rematch the following season that magioton became a culture hero.
I will never got over when Oxford beat arsenal.3 nil in 86 last day of the season

Although of course, had 93/94 not gone our way then we never would have got stuffed 9-0 the following season...
