Just thought I'd pull this out.

Holy' has made 22 starts in goal this season. In those starts he's kept 11 clean sheets.

I know it's hard to find that many positives at the moment but for a keeper to keep it to nil in half their games in a side that is 'struggling' is pretty good going in my book.

So well done the tall fella.

Holy's been fine. For comparison Cornell kept 1 clean sheet and conceded 9 in 6 games. The problem isn't the defence though, we simply aren't scoring enough goals

He's certainly a better option than Cornell, but never quite convinced by him, this is probably his level though, so should be more than adequate in this league.

He generally commands his box well, catches well, kicks long well, makes his regulation saves, does well with one-on-ones. Does get beaten by the odd low drive that you think he should do better with, but if he were flawless he wouldn't be here.

His record last year was very good as well on clean sheets

21 appearances - 17 conceded - 9 clean sheets

So overall in League 1 games it's 18 clean sheets in 41 appearances

Holy is pretty low down on our list of problems, imo. He's nowhere near Bart at his best but you're not going to have a keeper like that in League 1. Holy is good enough for where we are.

That was the problem in championship. The defence was put under too much pressure as they knew they had to keep clean sheets to win games.
So any mistake by Bart, gerkin or any defender was highlighted as it ultimately caused us to lose games.

He's a very average keeper but he's not the issue, we can get by with him in the sticks. He would probably have more clean sheets if we didn't insist on playing so much of the game in our own 1/3 throughout this season. You really have to question the approach we've taken under Lambert, inviting so much pressure onto a frail and often inexperienced defence, 'popping' it around between Kenlock, McGuinness and Holy like we're peak Brazil. We really been asking for trouble all season, and more often than not we've found it. On the rare occasions we adopt a more pragmatic approach, with a regular number 1 and defenders whose remit is primarily to defend, we look much more solid. We need to be playing the percentages, getting the ball forward far quicker and letting Bishop, Dozzell, Norwood, Jackson, Harrop, Edwards, Thomas et al play the football in their half of the pitch. Let Holy, Wilson, McGuinness and Chambers etc defend, there shouldn't ever have been such reliance on them as a creative force.

Google -

It comes from sports reporting in which the reporter uses a different piece of paper to record different events. If a team does not let in a goal, then there is a clean sheet of paper so far as the other team's "details of goals scored" is concerned.

He's a decent keeper at this level. Easily our #1 which makes Lambert's constant changing even more irksome.

Truly impaired.

Used to hang a sheet up as the goal net - if no one scored it would still be clean at the end of the game

Whilst that is decent, let's not forget clean sheets aren't SOLELY down to the keeper (see Harrop's point-saving block on Saturday).

I agree with most though, he's decent at this level. And much better than Cornell from what I've seen.

Trust the process. Trust Phil.

I think he's got all the attributes needed to go up a league. A bit more work on communication needed and he does occasionally like a good flap.

An absolute bazooka of a kick too.

Which begged the question at the time, “why drop him?”. Our good start to the season ended when Norris made more starts and the tinker man flexed his ego.

Holy has flaws but so will every keeper in and out of the squad with a back four constantly changing. Basics.

If I remember rightly his final contribution before one occasion of being dropped was the magnificent penalty save at home to Wycombe.
