Does Downes come straight back in? 08:32 - Feb 24 with 1904 views | kentishblue | It’s been pleasantly surprising that Bish and Andre have done a more than competent job as a two in the middle last couple of games without either one being the classic tough tackling , breaker up of play usually seen in a two . Should Downes then come back in for Sat , and in place of who? Also note 5 games left against top 9 and 13 against teams below us...yes we shouldn’t be where we are right now but we could easily be the ones to come with a run especially as others with smaller squads may start to be stretched with Tues/ Sat routine.

Exactly. They have done more than enough in the last two games to warrant starting on Saturday but you never know with Lambert in charge!
Does Downes come straight back in? on 08:54 - Feb 24 with 1789 views | BanksterDebtSlave | Andre is repeatedly found out to be a bit of a liability defensively so I can see Downes being used in games where we expect to have to soak up some pressure. I imagine that is more likely to result in Downes for Bishop though while pushing Andre forward. Edit...for Saturday though, stick with what worked and hope Andre improves defensively. Last night we were playing quick short passes in triangles, Dozzell has great vision and ability to see and pick out passes in that style of play, he needs to improve a lot on his tackling but in a more advanced role he can pick a great first time pass and can open up defences.

Does Downes come straight back in? on 10:27 - Feb 24 with 1521 views | Harry_Palmer | No, but he could possibly come in for Judge. A midfield four of Bishop, Downes, Dozzell & Bennetts is very good at this level and Bishop can play on the right of a 4-4-2 which is where he played when he first burst onto the scene under Mick.

Does Downes come straight back in? on 10:41 - Feb 24 with 1481 views | Basuco | With the next seven games all Tuesday then Saturday there will inevitably need to be team changes, the important part will be shape and style of play rather who will come in or who will be left out of any particular game.

Bishop played in the 2-man centre midfield when he first came in, usually with Skuse. We had Paul Anderson on the right. He had a couple of spells being shunted out wide during one of his abortive returns from injury - because we'd decided in the mean time that he was an attacking midfielder who couldn't play in a 2.

We need some judicious and restrained rotation, really. Like for like swaps as players get into their red zones, no more than 2-3 at a time...

You may well be right, but he certainly played there more than once. I seem to remember one gloriously whipped in cross he supplied from wide right which was headed home by McGoldrick. The point being he can play that role and i'd rather see Bishop out wide than Judge, as well as it allowing us to get our four best midfielders on the pitch. You could also make a case for Edwards replacing Bennetts when fully fit. [Post edited 24 Feb 2021 11:44]

It was generally a bit more fluid than that in late 2014, more hybrid 4-3-3 than rigid 4-4-2. Two of Hyam/Skuse/Tabb plus Bishop Bru or Williams in midfield and then Anderson or Hunt closer to Murphy and McGoldrick. Bishop only played in a central two sporadically before this season. Bishop is much stronger now and capable of playing that role, not quite at the level of his early season form but he wasn't far off it last night which was great to see.

Does Downes come straight back in? on 12:12 - Feb 24 with 1260 views | MrTown | For me yes, because I think he’s our best midfielder. But, Dozzell, Bishop, Downes can all rotate in the schedule and play together, so it’s a really healthy position to be in.
