Calling Darth and other SNP people 12:02 - Feb 25 with 2812 views | giant_stow | I don't understand the current bust up, so interested in your takes... What's going on and who's side are you on? Are Salmond and Sillars right that something's rotten up there or should they be ignored as bitter yesterday men?

Calling Darth and other SNP people on 16:47 - Feb 25 by Churchman | Just out of curiosity what part of representation in U.K. Parliament is sub standard? As far as I’m aware Scottish seat representation of 47 seats for 7% of the U.K. population is about right. Scotland has its own devolved administration now. When Scotland returns to the EU, it will amount to 1% of the population so will presumably have 1% representation. As I say, I’m just curious - it’s up to the Scots what they do. It’s their business. |
All of it is sub-par. Scotland is well enough “represented” within that context but it’s not fit for purpose as a modern democracy. When the majority of votes don’t count letting minority parties have majority rule then the country never gets what it’s voting for.

Calling Darth and other SNP people on 16:32 - Feb 25 by Darth_Koont | And another smeary disingenuous campaign for you rather than face the underlying arguments and decades of sub-standard democratic representation via Westminster. Can’t wait for your “SNP cybernats are antisemitic extremists” episode ... 😴 |
Your replies to this thread are straight from the Trump and Corbyn playbook. The media are biased. Fake news. I fear, as with the EHRC, that as this unravels you are once again going to look rather foolish.

I fear you’ll always be on the wrong side of history. And soon on the wrong side of a border too.

Even your "Scotland is lost to the UK" is looking less likely. 52/48* and falling as each week goes by. In November/December it was a 14-12 point lead for Yes. The last two polls have been a 2 and 4 point lead. *I recall that 52/48 is considered close enough that it should be put back for a second referendum. [Post edited 25 Feb 2021 17:43]

We’ll see. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Opinion_polling_on_Scottish_independence Important also to note that the independence campaign in 2014 gained votes as the campaign went on. And of course, this time the Unionist campaign will have what exactly to say/lie about? They shot their wad on platitudes and meaningless promises last time, while the situation for the UK as a whole has got even worse after Brexit, Johnson and Starmer. Don’t worry though. You won’t get kicked out – we’re not like that.

It surprises me you link and still read The Spectator when they have given a platform to Taki and Gavin McInnes to spread their hate and anti-semitism.

That's a bit unfair given that Holyrood is elected using proportional representation. Oh, you were talking about Westminster, weren't you?

Yeah, sorry. That wasn’t as clear as it should be. I think the Scottish Parliament is actually an excellent model for PR and local representation. Westminster on the other hand is a very bad joke – it’s “democracy” that can be controlled from above, so not a democracy in any real sense at all.

The rule that’s been shown time and time again from the Spectator, Johnson and the right to Trump and Orban is it’s OK to be an antisemite. It’s only if you’re anti-Zionist or indeed pro-Palestinian that the “anti-racists” like the CAA, Board of Deputies, the Labour right and the Twitter loons like David Collier, GnasherJew et al will be out after you. Because basically they’re ethno-religious nationalists and islamophobic supremacists – and as anti-racist as the Spectator, Johnson, Trump, Orban etc.
