I used to be a bit transphobic, I admit it. I didn't 'get it'. Then I found myself on Reddit's suicide page. I was never suicidal, just to be clear. Not sure how I got there. Anyway that page was full of trans people talking about their struggles. I read through a lot of it and responded to some of them (sympathetically) and learnt a lot from it. I finally understood that all they really wanted was to be free to be themselves. It wasn't about attention seeking, forcing their beliefs on to others or anything else. It was just about being comfortable with themselves and being happy.
I think, other than love, there's no greater human emotion than empathy. I was a cock. Now I think i'm slightly less of a cock.
As for this story, I think most of the mocking is because there's a Mrs Potato Head. If they had said the dinosaur (absolute legend) was gender neutral it would have made more sense. | |
