My worries...
Erm, basically any potential owner has the potential to fck over a club, asset strip and make a shed load of money if they buy it cheap enough. Luckily we don't own the land which makes the easiest way of asset stripping far harder. So am not overly worried that is their motive, if it was, they would target another club.
But the guys are still in it for a profit rather than out of a love of the club, clearly. Which is the same as ME tbf. My worry would be that they follow the exact same model as ME, namely buy us, spend money hoping for a quick turn around by getting us promoted (all good if it works) but what if they buy us, invest but for whatever reason we don't make the Prem? Then what? Cos I don't see venture capitalists throwing good money after bad. I don't see them underwriting losses for years as ME has done.
Flipside of course is that it could work, we go to the Prem, they sell us for a huge profit and everyone's a winner. What comes after that - well that's still better than the current stagnation/sh1tshower we get offered every week.
So I am very much cautiously welcoming the investment (if it comes) without being delighted or devastated. But I do think we need to be prepared to stand up to any bollox changes should they come. Renaming things doesn't worry me too much, unless it were the club name.
And trust me - this has happened before - see Cardiff (new colours ffs) or Hull (new name) - so there is a real risk for someone coming in from the outside full of ideas of how things work in America that they think might work here. [Post edited 27 Feb 2021 11:54]
